Tonight at the Texas show was an incredible night. I was honored to meet some of the men here on the forum and a couple of ladies as well. I was able to meet and hear Mike Siegler, Terry Bethel,Jay Dee Maness,John Hughey and Paul Franklin. All of these guys are great pickers. To top off the show, Hal Rugg played despite his illness. He invited Randy Beavers, John Hughey and Paul Franklin to join him while he played. That set was something I will never forget. Hal was given a plaque making him an honary Texan which he accepted with gratitude. All four of those men played fantastic and kept the crowd on their feet and wanting more. Joe Wright was scheduled to play last and even though I did not get to stay for the whole set he was dynamic as always. Joe is definitely an entertainer. It was great to see those two young boys play in the Carter room and seeing them play the C6th tuning was exciting. I wish that I could have been there for all of the show but circumstances do not allow me that. Seeing top notch players in person and meeting new people was just an added bonus for me. I am looking forward to next year. |

Same here Jack. You are a super guy and I enjoyed getting to hangout with you. This Texas show is really a great show, great pickers and a bunch of friendly people. I even saw some of our moderators there as well. Joey Ace, Janice Brooks and Donna Dodd. It was great to see them again. |

Yes, this is a great show without a doubt and the most congenial people you'll ever meet.
Also, Mike Auldridge was called up to play with Hal Rugg, John Hughey, Paul Franklin, and Randy Beavers. He played on two numbers with one 6 string dobro and one 8 string dobro. He is the "Mr. Smooth" of resophonics. |

Thanks Howard for remembering the dobro player. He was fantastic and did a great job and I understand he is a legendary player as well. I even got to meet Howard while there and that was just another treat. |

Paul, it was also a pleasure to meet you.
Resophonics were more prominent in the show this year, and it's a good thang. It's not always about bluegrass either.
Legendary he indeed is. Mike played some very tasty 8 string dobro tuned to C9. There are resophonic artists that are pushing the envelope (even if Bobbe's check is in it ) when it comes to applying this instrument to all genres of music. At least Hal Rugg, John Hughey, Paul Franklin, and Randy Beavers seemed to think so from the expressions on their faces. |

Ditto to all the above. A great time was had by all. The saturday night show is one that I will always cherish in memory. That's as good as it gets. Joe Wright is indescribable. The little nine year old Jonathan Candler on Friday night brought tears to lots of peoples eyes. He was so super to have been playing only a year or so with his handycap of being blind. Thanks goes to David Wright for being so generous to help him out. All in all it couldn't have been better. Thanks also to Albert Talley and all the other staff for their hard work in getting things together. Oh, one other thing. I think the sound people done a wonderfull job. As good as I've ever heard in Dallas.
