I got this guitar from my father who has passed away. Would anyone have an idea of the value of it. I'm trying to decide if I want to sell it or hang it on the wall for decoration. The last time I played it the only problem I saw was that the volume knob was scratchy when changing the volume. I don't know if a new pot is available or not. Other than that it played nice. The brand is Oahu. Probably from the 30's or 40's, could be earlier probably not newer since he bought it used around 1960. Any info would be appreciated.

I had one, sold it a few months ago for $400. but the finish was nearly perfect. Sometimes they go higher, Ebay sales go at @ $300 from what I have seen.

A little contact cleaner sprayed in the pot may help.
And like Bill said, "play it!!" Very Happy

Harry,
As others were saying, the value comes from it being was your fathers steel guitar - the memories are priceless, worth much more than you can get on the open market for this steel guitar.

Keep it and hand it down in your family. Cool

Aloha, Smile
Don

Thanks guys. The reason I have kept it all these years is because it was my dad's guitar. My dad always loved the steel guitar but could never be much of a player due to losing alot of his hearing while in the military. He always loved to hear me play though as I play pedal steel. I think the last thing he asked for before he died was to hear me play one more time. We had taken him home for Hospice care, so I packed all the gear I could into his living room and played for a couple of hours. He was so touched by it that he cried like a baby. He died a couple of days later. I do have alot of memories of my dad and playing steel, even if I was doing most of the playing. That is why I thought of hanging it on the wall for a memorial.

Harry, I'm with Bill on this one. Your dad's still listening. Play it, man! That's the best tribute you can give to him.

Harry, that story could make a grown man cry! I lost my Dad 7 years ago. He too was a Veteran. He played Banjo. I still have his and would never sell it. Don't sell it! Bill

Harry...If you do decide to sell it, you'll probably receive about $400.00 which is equivilant to roughly three weeks of grocery shopping these days...I think your Dad deserves better....agree ? Once it's sold, it's gone, along with all those precious memories. Sad
