I have recently bought a new George L 66 pick -up and put it on my Carter. I get the impression that the bass sound is more pronounced than my old George L that I took off. I now have to boost the treble side quite a lot and take the bass down to -9. Have they been modified during the last ten years and does it matter which way the pick - up sits on the guitar? Your help would be appreciated.

it should not matter which pole is under the string.
the bass response may be higher if that end of the pickup or the poles are closer to the string than on the ohter end. if a pole magnet is close to a string it can reduce the vibration too.

my two cents.

I've only owned 1 E66 and i thought it was a very treble sounding PU, seems odd to me you have to turn the treble up on it. I do'nt think it matters which way you install it, it should be the same either way. If my memory serves me rite, they are wound at 17.5 OHMs and used stainless blades to get that little extra treble bite that they seem to have.
maybe some one else with more experience with these will chime in.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, it's a mystery. I've always had to turn down the treble in the past. A visit to the ENT might be in order!!
