I'm glad to become a part of this forum in such talented company.
I took Hawaiian guitar lessons for a couple of years starting in 1958 at age 8. Read Oahu music in Emajor. I still have the 58 Fender Champ amp and gig with it weekly. I put it down as a teenager and spent the next 30+ years playing guitar.
I found a twin to my champ 6 string years ago and started toying with it. I play with an improv band each Monday night and occasionally with a Caribbean dance band and a country flavored singer-songwriter band. I've mostly "made it up" as I go since most of my performing is original material or not traditionally played on lap steel.
I've got the 58 champ, an old 6-string Rick which I guess was a student model, a 60's stringmaster D-8, and a Mike Auldridge Beard squareneck resonator (plus a bunch of guitars).
I'm working on learning some traditional steel songs, and find each day a challenge and a joy trying to figure out how to make better music on lap.
This forum is quite interesting and a great service to the steel playing community; I saw some of you at last years TSGA, and am amazed at your talent and knowledge.

Hi Joe,

I too started out on a 6 string lap steel and the Oahu method, but with an A tuning low bass, in 1954 at age 10. Very Happy Then went to a Multi-Kord and I later layed out for 23 yrs. Been back at it for the last 17. I would love to have a double neck Stringmaster even if it needed some work.

I too want to welcome you to the Forum. There are a lot of nice helpful people here, as well as a world of knowledge. Smile

Tom, another of my interests is to build a nice lap steel. I built one last year just to see if I could and was kind of proud of it till I saw pics of your builds. You make some incredible looking instruments and I bet they're great players, too.
I've collected and planed some spalted pecan and will make a second attempt at it soon.
