I've gone through many volume pedals over the years. I finally splurged on a Hilton. Pricey, but well worth it. Nothing, but pure guitar. |

James,
If you have a good pedal that is just "scratchy", do yourself a favor and order a new pot from Tom Bradshaw. I have had them in my pedals for a few years now and they are still doing great.

Greg Cutshaw has instructions on his website if you need help installing it.
For less than $30 you will be up and running.
The pedal you mentioned is not very comfortable for steel guitar.
Mr. Hilton builds a fine pedal, but if you have a limited budget fix yours.
Good Luck |

I have been using the Dunlop Hi gain for years. Gear operated [no strings to replace] Still has the original pot. It's OVER ten years old,NEVER had a problem with it. Musicians Friend has them for 80 bucks. YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC. _________________ Hard headed, opinionated old geezer. BAMA CHARLIE. GOD BLESS AMERICA. ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVIST. SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC ! |

I have been using the Dunlop from Tom Bradshaw for maybe 2 months now and am still struggling to get the tone I want.
I keep going back to an old Goodrich I have sitting around with a PEC pot in it _________________ BenRom Pedal Steel Guitars

This post is a retraction to the one above.
I do have a problem with the pot, but in my haste I wrote in this thread when what I SHOULD have done, was to contact Tom Bradshaw directly with my problems.
Tom emailed me this morning to offer to replace the pot and work with me to get the tone I desire.
I sincerely hope that what I wrote will not have any kind of ill effect on Tom and his business.
Tom is one of the most upstanding people in the steel guitar industry.

Edited to show that Tom has now been in touch with me again and he is going to send me a free replacement after determining that mine was defective. Thanks Tom! _________________ BenRom Pedal Steel Guitars

Bent,
Sure sounds like you got a bad one. I have 2 in 2 different pedals and I couldn't tell any difference in the tone. The difference to me is they stay working.
Tom is a great guy and will do whatever it takes to make you happy.
I would also encourage those of you who may not know about Tom's new volume pedal to check it out. http://www.songwriter.com/bradshaw/telonics_pedal.pdf
I am going to order one as soon as I recover from Christmas. |

This is an update on my volume pot and my dealings with Tom Bradshaw:
I received the new pot today. I installed it and tried it out. I do notice a marked difference in tone, as well as the taper. It sounds more close to the old PEC pots now, in my estimation.
I mailed the old one back to Tom. I told him to try it and see what he thinks. I hope you won't say it was all in my head, Tom!!
Tom followed up on my posting here and offered to replace the pot, even though I had not bought it from him.
What better service could we ask for than what I have just received from Tom?
In my books Tom is the best of the best and should be awarded 5 stars at the BBB.
Thanks again for your superb service!

Heck, you didn't have to get all mushy about it. I would have settled for just dropping by your place and taking your Misses nightclubbing while you stayed home and enjoyed practicing with a new pot in that pedal! ...Tom |
