March 11-14, 2010 at the TSGA's annual convention
This year, we proudly present:
The Rick Alexander Non-Pedal Sessions!!!
Friday, March 12....10:00 AM - TBA
Saturday, March 13..10:00 AM - TBA
Two full days of steel guitar featuring artists such as Cindy Cashdollar, Herb Remington, Pee Wee Whitewing, Girl Howdy, Mike Neer, Gerald Ross, Chris Kennison, Carco Clave, George Piburn, Margie Mays, Tony Locke, Wade Pence, Ivan Reddington, Dick Meis, Chuck Lettes, Kevin Brown, and many more!
The playlist should be ready in a few weeks, so stay tuned to this thread for more information.
In the mean time, if anyone would like to perform, please email me as soon as possible, as there are only a couple of playing slots left.
Named in honor of our dear departed friend, Rick Alexander, the sessions will be held in the Chagall Room on the Mezzanine level of the hotel.
I hope everyone can come join the fun...it's where old friends greet and new friends meet...a wonderful weekend for fun and fellowship for those who love the steel guitar.

The Dallas non-pedal show is always a good time.
Not only do you see and hear some good music in a relaxed up-close atmosphere but the "hanging-out" time in the room is fun as well.
Even during the times when there are no set "stage" performances the comraderie, joking around, small talk, jamming etc is worth the price of admission.

As Jeff said,.....we're sailing full speed ahead....we'll have our website up soon, more information as we draw closer to the show, requests for support and participation......and of course, shameless hype.....
The hotel is already booked up solid....I myself got shut out so I'll be staying in the dumpster on the south side of the hotel.....
If anybody is planning to go and has not made arrangements....The Holiday Inn Express (a block away)is available (Friday and Saturday rates are cheaper than the Sheraton and the other days are the same).......and there is free internet access there which is not the case at the Sheraton. Hopefully, we'll do Rick's memory proud, and hope that he's smiling down at us with a big thumb's up..... |

Yes, its fun holding down the rhythm section with Steve and as always, following tradition, the Dallas Convention will stop at NOTHING when it comes to paying us.
On another note... it's nice to see Mike Neer on the schedule.

I'll be back this year and I live just a few miles from there. I'd like to offer any help I may be if it's needed. I've got some sound gear, guitars, laps, whatever. |

What a lineup!!! Some of my favorite people to be sure. This will be TriboTone's 3rd year at the show and once again the whole Ebner family is attending. Last year my 3 year old son got a personal one-on-one steel lesson from none other than Mr. Rick Alexander. The man is sorely missed... I think he would be proud of what is being planned. Shine On-

I'd urge everyone attending the Texas shin-dig to line-up, ahead of time.........one fully operational and legally certified ELECTRIC GENERATOR!
I can speak from experience.......
So much electricity was being sucked out of that room by all the high powered amps that were plugged in and humming.........that all of the lights in the building went off and remained for for a little over 2 hours. One big FLASH and woosh.......DARKNESS surrounds. And NO! It was NOT my 1930's VOLU-TONE amp.

You can claim that it was not your 1930's VOLU-TONE amp, but the investigation continues.....furthermore, it was not just the hotel that powered downbut 1/2 of Dallas went dark. Sorry that you and Sally will not be there. I hope that that is not the final word.

Ray, a guitar player named Danny Gatton, who was a real wiz with electronics and all, used to have his Fender Super Reverb wired up as such that if he didn't like the venue or was having a bad night with the crowd, he could step on his 2 button pedal and shut down all the electricity in the joint. True story.

That amp has an outlet on the back, I guess he had a switch that shorted it. Don't try that at home! |

When the blackout occurred last year....it was an easy matter to put down the steels and pick up dobros and acoustic guitars......The Non Pedal Session didn't miss a beat....the show went on....which is one thing that they could not do in the big room....
"The Non Pedal Sessions Unplugged"...or perhaps "Shorted Out"... ...there was some sweet music coming out of that scenario....even seems like a good idea to devote a little slot to acoustic.......
Funny story about Danny Gatton.....I can't imagine an audience being unreceptive to him..... |

Sounds like a good name for an album:
"The Non-Pedal Sessions Unplugged, Vol 1 - Shorted Out!"
I held up a flashlight, so Ivan and Gerald could see their fretboards, and serenade us in the dark.
While the rest of the hotel came to a stop, the non-pedal room was still jammin'!
(But I did miss the A/C!)

It was very dark in the room when the lights went out because the room was in the middle of the hotel - no outside windows.
It was fun though. And I did get to try something I've never tried before - playing guitar naked!

Hey all,
FIrst, I'd just like to personally say thanks Jeff and George for privately contacting me about this event and giving me the head's up.
However, I'm extremely sorry to say that I'm booked to perform at a wedding on Saturday March 13 and the logistics of getting to Dallas and back to NYC are not working in my favor.
This is a huge bummer to me because I actually planned to go since last year, not knowing the dates conflicted.
I'll be watching the YT vids once again, and enjoying from afar, knowing that sooner or later i'll also be able to celebrate with my fellow non pedal brothers and sisters in Dallas--and also celebrate Rick's memory and spirit, which still lives--especially on this Forum.
