the only reference resource I have found, on the Carter website - http://www.steelguitarinfo.com/rodding/roddinglogic.html - states that on all-pull guitars the raises on the cross shaft closest to the changer should be the first rods installed. This dictates which raise bar holes will be used by these and subsequently installed raises, and to a certain extent which holes in the rod-pullers are used; in order to avoid rods crossing.
I followed this procedure when putting my setup on my Carter and it plays great.
HOWEVER in previous set-ups of other guitars I have made choices about which raises to "rod" first based on considerations of how much travel I want to have on certain pedals, and considering the mechanical advantage of different rod-puller holes, etc.
I just re-rodded my Sho-Bud (3pl raise, 2bl lower, 5-hole rod pullers) following the advice from Carter, and it so far doesn't play as well as my Carter does, although I have not finished adjusting everything yet.
Are there other theories, viewpoints, or approaches out there about how to map the pulls in an all-pull guitar? |
