I have a question about a 1953 Rickenbacher.....
possily a silver Hawaiian, but not sure.

The owner has mentioned a "DARK STONE" that he discovered in the guitar's interior along with some newspaper stuffings. It's his belief that the stone is there for purposes of SUSTAIN.
I've never seen the inside of any of those stamped guitar bodies.

He explains that the 'stone material' smells like
tectyl, and had all but disintegrated inside the guitar, chunks and sand?

His inquiry is: WHAT might be used to replace this stone item and to enrich the guitar with more sustain.

Any suggestions?

I remember Rick Aiello commenting on this. If a search can't bring it up, and no-one else can tell it, contact him.
