Happy New Year You All, I have some ?'s on Sound Cards. I first have to explain my problem: I have sound on all my players(WINNAMP,WIN.PLAYER,ETC.) when I run Win 7 BIAB AND TABLEDIT, but no sound on my Virtual PC XP MODE. A POPUP states "sound is being used by a other program" and no other program is running. When I go to control Panel/Sound and Audio Sound, there is no drivers listed for Sound Recording and MIDI MUSIC PLAYBACK in the VIRTUAL PC XP MODE but has drivers listed in Win7 mode. So I can't run my BIAB or my TABEDIT programs in V PC XP. NOW TO THE QUESTION FINALLY, what is a good sound card that works well FOR YOU with BIAB, other music programs and play back for Win 7(PCI)? I have a on-board Sondblaster that works OK with Win7 only and not VPCXP . Thanks, Art M.
PROBLEM FIXED----SEE THE 6TH REPLY BELOW FOR FIX----

I haven't worked with the XP "mode" in Windows 7 (I have Win 7 Professional but never downloaded the app) but I suspect you will have to install the sound drivers in the XP mode to have sound.
The XP drivers are different than the Vista/Win 7 drivers so you will probably need the XP specific drivers for the XP mode. |

Thanks Jack, I have tried to install the Drivers with no luck in Virtual xp. I went on line to WINDOWS DOWN LOADS for a patch or a update and did not find one for the VirtualPC XP drivers. If you or anyone out there knows how to fix this, Please let me know. I was thinking that some sound cards have their own drivers and maybe the new card would work?? Thanks again, Art M |

What do "IDE or SATA" have to do with soundcards? |

Does BIAB work outside of XP Mode? What I mean is, can you run it normally in Windows 7? What is the advantage of XP Mode? |

Hi John, I have the new hard drive 2010 BIAB and it will run in Win 7. I use the Virtual XP most of all, so it is convenient for me to stay in the V XP mode. I think it is somewhat faster. I did take my new computer to a computer pro and he fixed the problem with the sound drivers. He could not install the drivers in the Win Virtual xp so he changed it to SUN VIRTUAL BOX XP AND THE DRIVERS ARE ALL THERE and I'm a happy camper now. PROBLEM FIXED. Art M
PS- I STILL WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT SOUND CARDS ARE BEST THAT YOU ALL ARE USING WITH BIAB?? Thanks

The SoundBlaster sound cards are best as they have hardware MIDI synths built on the cards, which are far superior to the Microsoft GS Wavetable MIDI Synth. You need a good MIDI Synth for BIAB as it's "native" mode is MIDI.
However, you have to be careful as only certain model Xfi sound cards are supported in Win 7 by Creative (SoundBlaster).
A misconception, BIAB does not produce "audio" (e.g.analog wav audio) it uses MIDI which must be converted to audio. |

Thanks Jack, I called TigerDirect on the xfi card and thy do not have one that will run on Win 7. Do you know what SoundBlaster XFI card works with Win 7? I will Google it and see if there is any info for the XFI card. That is the card I was looking at. Thanks again, Art M. |

I generally deal with www.newegg.com for PC parts.
Most of the newer Xfi models that are fully Win 7 compatible are PCIe type, not PCI. Do you have a PCIex1 card slot?
I just upgraded my sound card, to get the hardware MIDI Synths, to a PCIe Xfi Titanium Fata1ity Champion and it works great. |
