We're outside the warranty time now, but I just paid iResQ more than $133 for both a new battery and a new HD for a Generation 4 ipod 40GB. (Mostly it was a matter of misunderstanding: I thought $99+ was for the whole megillah when actually it was an add-on to the $33 battery initially ordered. Also, I bought this Gen. 4 version (no color, video or graphics) refurbished as an act of defiance against a function I have no interest in.)
So we're outside the 30-day warranty period, but just inside 90 days. When the ipod is connected via a USB cable (actually--the ipod dock--it might only be USB 1.1) through a hub to my desktop G5, should it lose all power within a few hours?!? One time, all the ipod's songs and podcasts were wiped out and I had to copy them all from the G5 again. When the ipod loses power, it disappears from iTunes or is flagged as a corrupted device.
Can this be right?
(I have a newer nano dedicated to psg practice. I stole its AC power supply to take on my Christmas trip for the big ipod. I came back and the nano's is still at full charge, despite being disconnected for 2+ weeks.)
The Gen 4 ipod only maintains a charge when connected directly to an AC power supply. Seems I used to charge it (not just play it, but charge it) off a Mac Mini at a workplace desktop.
Is this a dead piece of $#1+ or am I unclear on some concepts here? _________________ "Gopher, Everett?" |
