"Second Fiddle to a Steel Guitar", 1965. Anybody know these guys? Anybody seen the movie? They took turns backing up all the lip-syncing artists in this cheesy, low-budget, although marginally interesting, movie.

Maybe he thought they were pretty .I put a Sho-Bud fretboard on one of my guitars one time,for the same reason. [In my opinion] They are the best looking fretboards of all. Even tho I play MSA'S There's nothing as PRETTY as an old BUD. YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

You know you wouldn't like Bud in a skirt. You seen some fine as wine women in your time, prettier than a bud. I saw one today. Ii would buy her a new car nd let her park it in my garage and her shoes under the kitchen sink and stove. How is this related to steel guitar? She was a 10 freter and styed in tune the entire slide up the elevator. No pedals to mess with she probably wasn't keyless, The knee levers were covered, unfortunately I like the head, you should have seen the finish. The body was wrapped in a fine stylish finish and the feet were adorned with brightly shined leather appliances. She was a beauty I couldn't tell the tuning. I was dazzled by the accesories. She didn't make a lotta noise in the short turn arround between the first and eight fret. She didn't seem shrill nor was there any drop. The instrument couldn't have been very old, looked well polished and cared for. I kinda got the impressions she was a keeper. The knee levers and attached rods were covered in a pretty outfit. The only dissapointment I had was the leather attachments were not open indicating the weather was inclement. yall have a happy new year. Im sorry BOB

I love LJD's Gibson Super 400 in that picture! Double pick-guards, too, which I've never seen before. Tater's had some nice guitars, hasn't he?
I'd like to see this film - cheesy or not; my old boss, George the 4th is in it!

There was a post on Facebook by a woman who said her grandfather died, my cousin in Chicago knew the woman, but never realized her grandfather was Arnold Stang until he read the post. He emailed me the movie poster, and that's how I came across this obscure flick.

It's definitely worth a look for country music fans, despite the "comic relief" by the Bowery Boys and the terrible acting and low production values.

| Bud Isaacs told me that was him playing "Steel Guitar Rag" as the movie started. Definitely a low budget film. If you fast forward thru the Bowery Boys it's a little better, still, so bad it is good! |

Well, my DVD's arrived but I've yet to take the plunge and actually watch it! Sometimes I amaze myself at how easily I'm drawn into internet shopping!
Maybe I should have sent the money to that animal abuse charity that has that lovely Sarah McLachlan tune on the soundtrack.....

| Roger, when I played for him in the '70's he had a closet in his basement full of Gibsons, Strombergs, and a German Silver triolean. That closet was holding in a guitar collectors dream. I might have seen that same guitar in there. |

I rented the movie just 3 weeks ago from Netflix. I enjoyed it very much, but I didn't get any of the details. Now I wish I had paid more attention to it. George Wixon (member here) and I were talking about it just the other day.
The "talking steel" really caught my attention. |

I'm watching it right now. Not exactly a big-budget effort, I must say! The 'comedy' is excruciatingly awful - not just the Bowery Boys but also the country performers who lean in that direction.
Lots of 'guitar pornography', though! I salivated over Homer & Jethro and their pair of matching cherry-sunburst Gibsons - mandolin and L-5!
An interesting document, but I'm appalled at how lacklustre the performances are, visually speaking; they mostly all look embarrassed to be there.
I bet I'll only watch it this once....
