My wife and I got a chance to check out Poco last night....wow..Rusty tore it up playing a little of everything from his Carter S-10 (2 songs) to a Dobro and mandolin and the boy can still sing...well they all can!! What a Band....They still got it so check them out if you get a chance.

Hey Steve, checked them out at the Kate Hepburn theatre on main street in Old Saybrook...used to be the old town hall...very small venue..maybe 150 people in there..go to the poco web site because they are playing in Mass in February with Pure Prairie League...

I would love to stop by and say hi but I've never met him and that might not be the thing to do.

Bill,
I believe they're last show was last night until the 23rd...he's a great guy...he stuck around after the show and signed autographs and talked..very approachable and would probably welcome visitors to chat steel talk...

I wish I could have seen that show. I love Poco (one of my favorite bands of all time).
Rusty has always been one of my chief influences and inspirations and I'd sure love to meet him in person some day and hear him play live.

I got to see them again this past summer at the PNC Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ.
They were great as usual, they opened for Loggins and Messina. The great part was that Richie F was there and at the end Jim Messina and George Grantham came out to play. It was neat to see vitually the original band all up on stage together.

Yes, the original band was killer. I saw them in 1968 at the Troubadour club in Hollywood when they were still called "Pogo," before Walt Kelly's wife had the lawyers talking to them about copyright infringement. Then they changed to "Poco."
The band was Grantham, Messina, Young, Furay, and Randy Meisner on bass. I went up to Rusty on the break and told him I was playing steel for Ronstadt, and he seemed real happy to talk to another steel player, not that I was much of one in those days.
You can't forget memories, ya know.

Hey Cal thanks for that article...One thing about seeing the band is that they just got up there and played...nuthin' fancy, unlike the artist of today. btw...I failed to mention that it was all acoustic except for of course the steel and Pauls hollow body Gretsch...no drummer. Alot of the hits from the 70's and a nice treat of Rusty alone on the dobro playing Robert Johnsons' "Come in my kitchen"...real nice dobro playing. I will try to upload a few pics if I can.

Rusty is a very cool person and easy to talk to. I've had the privilege of visiting with him a few times and he's a lot of fun.
Like Herb, I was at those Troubador shows as well back in the day. It was the first time I had seen a steel up close much less played like Rusty did it.
Rusty has life a little easier these days with his reasonably new bride and his digs in Missouri.
Do check him out when you get a chance to go see Poco.
