Those who know of Gene Autry's "Blueberry Hill" and the remake by Fats Domino can easily see why the change made the old song new.
Why is it not possible to take some of the old country and change the arrangement.
We put a definite latin beat behind The Fugitive and the dance floor filled up to a song that wasn't working plus it is a lot more fun to play. "All Of Me" was turned into an up beat "dixieland" style with the same results, more on the dance floor.
This might be a key to reaching a "newer" audience. |

This might result in reaching a "newer" audience and losing the "older" one!
It all depends on who you're playing for. |

I have often thought the same thing , R&B in the 50’s
was 1920’s & 30’s music set in a new era .
there are some tunes I love to play from the 40’s that seem
to be enjoyed today - one you might try is “ some day you’ll want me
to want you “ it was a number #1 hit in 45 / 46 -- I think it was jimmy
wakley country singer that had the hit .
You have my vote Go for it
PS --
todays music don’t seem to have any structure , the old
stuff is well built and may confuse a younger audience but once
they catch on , they won’t go back |

Hey Roual
I have done that for years. Ex old Hag tunes theat were 2/4 and play them 4/4 .Or maybe pick up the tempo and add a little dist. guitar. We play / do what ever it takes to get them on the dance floor.

Got the idea from Red Steagall. Songs like "Somewhere My Love'. Change from 3/4 to 4/4 swing beat. There are alot of older tunes that you can revive that way. "(I left my heart in)San Francisco" works great to a swing beat.. I think the old country standards should be left as is INHO. Jody. |

We do "Somewhere My Love" very similarly to Red's version. We swing "All of Me." We also swing "Mona Lisa." Not too much of a departure, but they are different from what most people normally hear.
Another band I played with took Grandpa Jones' "Falling Leaves" and made it into a hard, driving shuffle. That band took a lot of 3 chord country songs and turned them into shuffles. Made for good dancing.
I recently heard a band on the radio playing Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called to Say I Love You" as a driving shuffle. Well, that wouldn't have been my first choice to rearrange, and I don't know if it improved on Stevie's hit, but if you like turning songs into shuffles, it would work for you. Certain songs are better suited for rearranging, but I guess you can rearrange just about anything. _________________ I'm a Bob Moore Junkie!!! |
