I just turned 55 myself this Dec 28th (almost John Hughey's birthday ... I think his was either the 27th or 29th).

I really did enjoy seeing your video. And, it took me back to a gig I had on my birthday in 1988. I was with a band called Whatta Band and we were at the Esquimalt Inn in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The club owner, learning it was my birthday, started sending up shots of this stuff called Black Sambuca (some kind of licorice liqueur). I've never been much for drinking alcohol and by the third set I was toasted, blended and flushed. Shocked Then, our female vocalist calls "Highway 40 Blues" to take us into break time. Whoa!

Needless to say, the song came out rather, uh, interesting on my part. Laughing But it was fun and we had a good time.

Your birthday looked like a great time, too, and having a good time playing music is part of what it's all about. Very Happy

Thanks Jim! Happy Birthday late! Very Happy

Ya know, i think i'll step out on a limb here and say i think the more i listen to this i feel i picked the hell out of it! Cool

Sometimes ya just have to feel good about something you played and for me this is one! I'm not much for funky music but it was fun! Laughing

Just played off the cuff and didn't know where i was going until i got there! Loosey goosey! Razz

I think some of them licks belong to TW, PF, Buddy and maybe Buck R.! Laughing

Don't tell them about it! Cool

Thanks, Kenny, for the birthday wish.

I think that's a pretty safe limb to crawl out on, Kenny ... I think you did great and I know I surely enjoyed it very much. Very Happy

And, I'm with you on having fun while you play. Sometimes it feels great to just get on the fly and let rip what will in the course of a song, and it made me smile to see your video and how much fun you were having with it. Smile You were nailing it.

Your secret is safe with me on the licks ... I won't tell if you don't. Very Happy

I normally don't let anyone know this is up on YouTube, but I thought you might get a kick out of it since we've talked birthday gigs ... if you promise me you won't laugh too very hard at my sloppy playing, I'd like to share my "birthday night" song with you that I mentioned earlier. When we did "Highway 40 Blues" that night, it ended up being taped. Whoa! I keep the tape around so I can hear it and get a good laugh remembering how, well, flat out drunk I was that night. In my nearly 30 year career, it's the only time I ever played on stage with a "buzz" (and the word buzz is putting it lightly Laughing ). I gotta admit, though, it was so much fun at the time.

I'll send you the link in a PM.

Man, you really did good on your video and I've watched it several times ... and I enjoy it each time I watch it. Smile Do you have some more live gig videos? Keep 'em coming. Very Happy

Jim, it's funny that you mentioned the Esquimalt Inn. I played that gig many times back when I lived in Vancouver in the late 80's. It was a fun gig and loved checking out Victoria, such a beautiful city.

Kenny, thanks for the kind words regarding Hwy 40 ... you're way too generous. Smile If you make it here to the Dallas area, please feel free to email or PM me and we can exchange phone numbers ... would love to connect up with you and maybe do some jamming?

Wow, John ... it was the late 80's when I did the Esquimalt, too. 1988 and 1989 to be exact ... and you're right, Victoria is a beautiful place to check out. Smile
