MR. Boards............
Enjoy the beauty of nature as long as you can for it will last only a short while........just long enough for you to reacquaint yourself in the operation of the snow shovel and rock salt dispenser........and,
how to chain up that tin lizzy so you can get to the store and back.
Last Xmas, we had some two feet of snow at our house.
The snow had slid down the roof to the gutters and was rolled over and hanging down like in a little kids story book picture. The wife's son had to bring us groceries in his 4-wheel drive rig. Temp's hovered in the mid to lo 20's for nearly a month.
They're back down to mid-20's now for the past several days. The pipes actually froze up about two weeks ago when we were hit with the first Artic Blast.

This is from February 07, when we got about 1,5 meters of snow in less than a week, which is exceptionally much, even for Norway, especially here in the south.
That morning the house owner had to dig me out, because the snow was covering my front door:

I used to dislike shoveling snow also, then I bought a used BobCat. Now I can't wail 'til the next snowfall. Turns a bad job into playtime in the snow  |

Here are some pictures of our last Christmas snow storm in Vancouver, Washington, where it usually does not snow. This storm produced 12 inches of snow. One of the problems is that there is no equipment to take care of it. Another is that people do not know how to drive in it. My long experience driving in snow in Michigan was very helpful.

I'm up on Georgian Bay for a few days, but home in the banana (and peach/grape} belt, Niagara, we have a green Christmas. At 72, I'm happy with that. When I lived in Montreal, I loved skiing and the Laurentians were on our doorstop.

In 2004 we had 24 inches of snow in our driveway in Indiana. Since then we have spent our winters in Florida and just this year became residents there year round.
We came back to Indiana last Monday to be with family this Christmas. This morning it was 46 deg. and raining. It is now 35 with strong winds, and the temp. is dropping. We talked this morning to our neighbor in Florida and it was 78 and they had their air conditioner running. 
We are just hoping the snow holds off until we leave next Mon. to head back down I-65 and over Monteagle Tenn. to our home in Florida.
Thanks for the pictures, as the snow is beautiful. We do miss the beauty of the changing of the seasons, but at 72 with 3 hip replacements I would just rather not get out in the snow & ice anymore and take a chance on slipping and falling.
We pray everyone had a wonderful safe Christmas and hope your new year is great too.

About 20 years ago, when my kids were toddlers, we travelled to Nebraska for Christmas on the California Zephyr. Unfortunately the train got stuck in a blizzard. It took no time at all for the Conductor and train staff to set up a painting contest for the kids, and they kept them amused in what could have become a very boring situation. We ended up partying on the train and got to know our fellow passengers. It was quite an experience, and we pulled into Omaha about a day and a half late, none the worse for wear.
It's times like those which bring out the best in people and renew one's faith in the human spirit. |

Has all that SNOW melted yet?
Hopefully that neatly stacked firewood isn't too far from the door so that Mrs. Boards doesn't have to slosh too far out into that frigid weather just to keep you all warm and snuggily. |

My Valencia orange trees are loaded down with fruit.
I can look over their tops and see the snow in the San Gabriel Mountains about 30 miles away.
That's about as close as I want to get to snow.
The highest of the peaks is Mt. San Antonio (10,049 ft. ASL).
I left this warning sign for Santa Claus on the side of my chimney the night of Dec. 24th:

Temperature's down at -11C/12F over here now, which is very cold for this part of Norway (pretty common when I grew up though..). Went out to do some errands earlier today, it was hard to breath. Supposed to be like this for at least another week, can't say I like it..
Sure looks pretty though:

Just wanted to give you a weather update as I didn't want you to worry about me freezin' and all.
Woke up Wednesday morning to find our 2-3 inches of the fluffy stuff had melted and gone bye-bye. The roads are clear and temps in the upper 40's/low 50's.
Oh HAPPY DAYS are here again! |
