Well just when I thought I was done & running.
I have IE8 installed & am running XP Pro.
Just in the last couple of days I go to Favorites & click on Yahoo, or the forum here or ebay etc, & they come up, but then IE says this web page cannot be displayed & there is an error on this tab, then it comes back on & says this tab has been recovered then goes off again. I never had this problem with previous versions of IE & tabs, & never had problem with this one till recently.. When I go to X out ebay, or Yahoo, it asked me if I want to close all tabs or just the current tyab.. never had that before, & how do I get rid of this nuisance & get back to the way it used to be?? I am using Google as my home page & search engine..
thanks,
John

up^^^

Every time I go to a page e.g. The Steel Guitar Forum, I get a "this Web page cannot be displayed", then this page has been recovered, then back to the other & we cannot reconnect you to the Forum, or We were unable to return you to the page you were viewing.. I never changed anything in the settings. Is it IE8??

Yeah, that's really strange.

Test with another computer if you can. Obviously the more similar the setup the better. You want to see if it's something specific to your machine or not. If you can't get another machine to test with or the test machine behaves correctly...

- Reset all of the IE settings. There is a fix it button for that here, as well as instructions to do it manually:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Reset-Internet-Explorer-8-settings

- Do a malware scan with MalwareBytes

There are a couple of other things to try (updating your network drivers, resetting your router, calling your ISP) but hopefully those two will do something.

Spybot Search & Destroy has a good BHO remover.

Oh, what happens if you run IE without add-ons?

Thanks for replying John..
It's doing a bunch of strange stuff, mostly with my Yahoo mail.. When I first open Yahoo, the screen blibks back & forth between my inbox & the loading screen, When & if Iit settles down, I can delete my spams, & can read my e-mails fine, but if I get a picture, & click down load or open, IE comes on & says IE encountered a problem & needs to shut down, also if I want to forward a letter with or without attachments, I get the same message.. I can get on the forum not too bad, but I went to do a speed test with Speak Easy. It comes up OK, but when I click on a city & click start I get the same message.. I went & downloaded IE8 again, & it said it will get rid of the previous IE, & install new one. Same thing. I am usinf Firefox right now, but I can't find a refresh button on it. IE is driving me crazy, I mean crazier..
I will try your suggestions right away.

John, I tried both of your suggestions & still the same. I will run spybot & MBAM, but that will take quite awhile, I'm going to put the computer in Safe Mode & do a full scan..

The refresh button in Firefox should be the third button from the left in the Navigation Tooblar. If not, go to View > Toolbars > Customize... in the menu and put the refresh button where you want it.

The best advice I could give is to use Firefox. I can't think of any ways in which IE actually functions better, outside of a corporate environment. IE have the "accelerators" now but I can't say I found them to be all that useful. All in all I prefer having spell check Very Happy

Anyway if IE's staying then another thing to try is turning on compatibility view for the sites that are a problem.

Thanks.. I ran MBAM, it didn't find anything.. I did a complete scan in safe mode..
When I bring up IE, it's OK, but as soon as I click on Yahoo, the screen starts flashing between Yahhoo mail & right under the orange box (Websearch), it says yahoo loading, then after a whole bunch of flashes it stabilizes, & quits flashing. But when I try to forward anything it says something happened, & mail not sent..

Well it looks like I'm ready for the HAHA house.. Yesterday i had all kinds of problems, flashing Yahoo, IE closing down, other sites closing, so I gave up & went to bed at 2am.. Got up this morning at 7, & tried Yahoo first thing.. Everything works perfect, & fast.. no crashes.... I'm about to go bananas, ( my wife says I been there a long time).. I just hope it stays working..
Thanks all..
