Are you looking for something like a Dobro or a Weissenborn or a National tricone? In my book, those are all excellent acoustic lap steels. So are the old Oahu student-model hawaiian guitars -- or lots of other flattop guitars -- with an extension nut and a soundhole pickup. |

In an attempt to build an acoustic steel guitar with a lot of resonance I built this about 3 years ago. I tune it A6. It has the largest resonance chamber I could buy wood for. There's a lot of internal sound reflection. Notice the short, stubby neck, but very large body. |
