| I've been searching the forum to find out about the 3 cord hookup for pot volume pedals with the Nashville 112 pre eq. I'd like to try it and was wondering if it is worth the extra two cords as far as tone, etc.How is it done and where do you put the delay pedal in this setup? Thanks for your help and sorry for bringing up a worn out topic. |

Mitch, I really like the 3 cord system. It takes the high end loss of the old fashioned V-pedals out of the equation. It also takes a little of the scratchiness out of the pedal.
I bought a siamesed 1/4" cable for around 10 bucks at GC, run it from VP to amp. Then I run 1 cable from guitar to amp. Usually I use an Ibanez pedal before right out of the guitar, but not always. The 3 cord system makes a large difference in the sound, takes muddiness out of the mix. JP

I use the three wire system on my Nashille 1000, 112 and Session 500. It works well especially if you use a pot volumne pedal. There is some hum reduction as well as you are using less cable and connectors ahead of the pre-amp.
The 112 pre-amp amplifies the guitar signal immediately and then feeds that signal to the pedal. Any noise added by the volume pedal is reduced by the amount of gain in the preamp. The loss of high frequencies associated with the volume pedal is also gone, so you won't need a "black box" type device in line.
For the 112 run a good (and short as possible) cable from the guitar directly to the input of the 112; then run a cable from the Pre Eq send to the pedal input and another cable from the pedal to the Pre Eq return. I put all three of my pedal cables in that web cable guard, that makes it really easy and fast to hook up.
As for the delay, connect it to the Post Eq jacks on the right side of the 112 front panel. Post Eq SEND, cable to the delay pedal input. Then out of the pedal back to the RETURN on the Post Eq jacks.
You will have five cables connected to your amp when you play. The Boss DD3 works well connected this way, as does the RV-3. The Lexicon will work connected this way also, but you need to keep an eye on the levels into the Lexicon and not over drive it.

Mitch, I have been using the 3 cord hookup every since the Session 500 came out many years ago. When I play an amp that doesn't offer the 3 cord hookup, I really miss it ,even with my Hilton pedal.
Marvin said it all. But I will add that even with my Hilton pedal I still use the Black Box. Just a littel something extra to play with. Keith Hilton told me one time that he used both his pedal and the Hilton digital Sustain.
I normally use one or two Nashville 112's. When I use my Evans or Session 400, of course I can't use a 3 cord hookup. I am the only one that notices any difference in the tone, but it is still good no matter which guitar I use.
Just my two pennies worth.

I saw an Experienced Steeler get confused with his hookup and accidentally plug his guitar into the send output on a session 500 and burned his E9th pickup open on a Mullen Steel. I won't mention His Name, but it happened and I saw it happen. he said he had done that before on his 74 Emmons PP and it never caused a problem. Sure wiped out that pickup, tho.
I would just rather have an electronic Volume Pedal, On Which you don't use the 3 wire hookup. |

I wonder why Peavey rigged the Session 500 for the 3 cord hookup, but not the Session 400??? Is there a way to mod the 400?
