The The Austin Steel Guitar Co-op is a free organization that gets together on the 2nd Sunday of each month for a social promotion of pedal steel guitar and jam session, at the 290 West Dance Hall in Austin Texas.
This month we had a good turn out with Herb Steiner and Jim Loessberg showing up.
These guys both have pedal steel instructional materials on there websites.
I like Herbs as is seems a little easier to comprehend and slowed down for learning purposes.
The plus side with Jim Loessberg’s is that he explains step by step, note by note, verbally as you go,
no tab really necessary for more advanced players.

Also in attendance we had Free Cornbread and Cajun beans .. Very Good.
There were some steels and amps for sale an D-10 MSA, a Thomas 12 string Universal, and as I understand it the Emmons D-10 for sale was serial # 08 Picture below.
Joe Long made it up from San Antone adding a nice touch to a number of songs.
Roy Glaze is an exceptional player as is Dave Biller, Thanks you guys!
Sam Brown and Curtis Alford got up, each doing very good sets to giving a break to the Parker Brothers Band.
Great job by Big Jim Hiles, Gus Brown and L.C. Parker as usual.
New friend to me was Ray Hadaway played some nice steel work,
Commander Dave Goodman, my good friend and co-founder was requested to play on L.C. Parkers set and was solid with Jim Hadaway in stereo testing out my Universal.
I should have recorded that one although it was all very good.
There were a couple of other old Black Emmons in attendance also that I missed the Photo opp on.
Thank You to J.D. Faron and the 290 West Staff.. what a cool bunch of people!

I had a great time also. Met some players and bandleaders I'd not met before, ate some good groceries, and listened to some excellent playing, especially my good friends Roy Glaze, Jim L. and Dave Biller.

Biller continues to amaze! His being one of the top jazz guitarists in Texas (and I do not exaggerate - his playing on my Texas Dance Time CD is proof enough), the rate at which he's advancing on steel guitar in only a very few years means he'll be one of the major players on that axe as well shortly. Mark my words.

To slightly correct Ken's comment on the Emmons guitar that changed hands last Sunday, it was not "#8", but rather 2190. A red-belly wraparound from mid-1965 it's a very nice horn that will make the new owner quite happy, I'm sure. Wink

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

I will second what Herb Steiner said about Dave Biller's guitar playing. Listen to his extended ride on "Gotta Have My Babe Back" on Herb's Dance Town USA. Wow! Djangoesque runs. Also on the CD, Biller and Wakefield. You hear Jimmy Bryant's influence thru and thru. If Dave plays a steel like he plays guitar, he will be a great one.
