Hello SGF folks--

Deke Dickerson here, just wanted to let you know about an event that I know a lot of you will really enjoy. every January I do a guitar festival in Anaheim the same weekend as the big NAMM trade show. I always try to sneak in as much steel guitar as I can!

This year I'm having a great set called "HISTORY OF THE STEEL GUITAR!" This will be a setup on stage going from left to right demonstrating how the instrument evolved, and where it's going in the future.

Here are the players and what they'll be doing:

"Duke" Ching--demonstrating the acoustic Hawaiian steel guitar origins, playing a Weissenborn acoustic.

Pat Quilter--demonstrating how the instrument went electric and the transition from the hawaiian chordal style to single note playing. Pat will play a Rickenbacker Frying Pan or Bakelite steel.

Joel Paterson--will play a Gibson lap steel and show how the electric lap steel became a force to be reckoned with in 1930's jazz playing.

Jeremy "J.W." Wakefield--will play a Bigsby console steel and demonstrate how the non-pedal steel used to rule the roost in Western Swing.

Dave "D.B." Berzansky--will play an early Sho-Bud pedal steel and show how the instrument changed to the pedal steel, and the origin of the E9th tuning.

Norm Hamlet--yes, THE legendary Norm Hamlet of Merle Haggard's Strangers--will demonstrate how the pedal steel evolved into the instrument we know it today. Norm says he's up for bringing down his ZB or his Rus-Ler, we are excited as can be about this!

Chas Smith--will demonstrate the instrument's future by playing one of his futuristic titanium steel guitars.

Lastly, I am trying to find a 10-year old kid who can play a song on the Iphone "Steel Guitar" application. Yes, a steel guitar...on your cell phone.

It's going to be a blast. we also have Rock and Roll Hall Of Famer Duane Eddy as the headliner of the festival, a night of fun for all.

For more info go to www.guitargeekfestival.com, you can buy tickets there as well.

Thanks! Hope to see some of you Steel Guitar Forum guys down there, and if you make it, say howdy!

I truly wish I could be there for this great event. If anyone is in the LA/ Orange County area for this, you just have to go. Deke is an awesome ambassador of the steel guitar. Many, many thanks to Deke and have a great 7th annual Guitar Geek Festival!
