On my Derby SD-10 and 9th string doesn't lower quite enough, and the tuning peg for it (RKR) doesn't seem to have any effect no matter which way or how far I turn it. I'm afraid if I turn it too far something will fly. Could something be stripped? |

The pull rod may be too loose and/or you may have not enough travel...
Have you any "stop" on that lever?
- if you do, just set it better, so that it will stop the travel of the lever "later";
- if you don't, you may move the bellcrank (engaged by the 9th string) a lil' bit towards the changer..
this will make it more effective allowing to achieve a longer travel of the rod with the same lever movement.
After moving the bellcrank you will have to set up the pull rod again (it will have to be a little bit shorter). |

Ray, I had the same problem. It is not a problem it is an adjustment, or was on mine. Go here, this is essentially the way the Derby changer works. http://www.steelguitar.com/steelmap/maptop/changer.htm
My Derby, and I am assuming yours, has an allen screw, not the nylon tuning nut, at the changer end. It must be backed out enough so that the "Control Finger" (see diagram) can move back far enough to reach the lowest tone required. The pic and arrow indicate the allen screw I'm referring to. A turn counter clockwise should be enough.
This also assumes you are using the recommended string and are lowering a half tone, which mine does.
Email me if you would like, we'll get it working for you. I'll take pics of mine and send them to you.

That was it, Dick--the set screw. Never knew they were even there I'll check out that website and learn something about my changer.
Thanks for the replies, guys! |
