If the stage amps happen to be around,I might plug
into one of them,or the small Class A amps for some
vintage vibe,but 8 times out of 10 I´ll be using a
Roland Cube 15 for woodshedding/just playing.McUtsi |

I use a Peavey Nashville 112 for home and steel guitar shows. Before I played shows, I used a little Peavey Rage 108 and a little Fender Champion amplifier. I play "Redgold Beauty"-my GFI Ultra D-10 through the 112 and it's my best amplifier and it'll also be used with my Jackson Blackjack Custom in 2010.

Never bring my amp home,leave it on the bus between gigs. I use an Ibanez RP 200 at home.It has an instrument and CD input and two earphone outputs. Can use all my effects. It's weight is about half a pound. Can practice ANYTIME day or night and NO ONE knows it but me.YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

My volume pedal goes into a Boss DD-20 delay. It has a headphone out on it. When people are home I put on my headphones and I don't bother anybody. When they'e gone, I turn on my Evans head thru a small Raezer's Edge cabinet with an 8 inch speaker in it. It's only 12" wide so it takes up just a little room. BTW, It sounds great when everybody goes away and I crank it up loud.

Mackie 1202 mixer
Yamaha Rev500 digital reverb
Yamaha MS400 powered speaker.
The MS400 has a 15-inch speaker powered by a 300-watt amp and a high-frequency speaker powered by a separate 100-watt amp.
I haven't found a conventional instrument amp I'm happy with for pedal steel. To my ears, this system sounds exquisite.
Anyone else using a powered PA speaker for pedal steel?
My sound begins with a Shot Jackson Commemorative, beautifully set up by my friends David and Harry Jackson. Those remarkable brothers have been treating me like a brother for 30 years. |

You could retire on amp sales alone, some great amps Edited to say that ShowBud is as beautiful as any I have ever seen, I think you and I love them. I had a blue one Leon Roberts did, he is the best Bud rebuilder there is. He did a Professional and others that play Better than Zums, Jack Daugherty, Kenny Drake, Billy, and Allan Mc cormick,s rebuild all surpass any guitar these guys ever had. I wish I still had my blue one.
I play at home thru my steel king also some with N112 or both.
Alvin underneath is a work of art.

I lucked out. In 1977, 2 yeas before I stared playing steel, I bought a Music Man HD 212 to use for lead guitar. It turns out that it's also a great steel amp.
I also have a Yamaha G111 112 that I use for smaller rooms, a Crate power block with an Alesis midverb and a black widow speaker that I keep at home, and an original crate from the 70s that weighs only 20 pounds that I use (with a POD for reverb) for rehearsals.

Old Nashvlle 400 with LeMay mods, most of the time, also use my Steel King sometimes, I keep my Evans SE150 for gigs, cause its the the 'Low Weight Champ'.

My hot-rodded Princeton Reverb. 20 watts, 12" Celestion. I can put it a few feet in front, use the tiltbacks, and at practice levels, it sounds tremendous!

John, I use the same amp ( 1967 I think). We had a flood in our basement this past summer so the cabinet finish has some minor water damage; however, that little amp still produces great sound. |

Mine is a '74 I think. Big iron installed. An Allen PT that will also allow 6L6s, and a Dr. Z OT. A phase inverter mod took it up to 20 watts. Great-sounding little amp with true Fender reverb, and no "roach" on the trem. |

I take my little Princeton Reverb to all of our gigs because that's what I plug my D8 into when doing the old Eddy Arnold, Hank Williams & Hank Snow pieces and other stars of that era who used eight string steels.
The band's big stage amp really does lose that sweet sound of the steel in those old songs.
"As a side note, the only electronic gizmo that I play through is my Ernie Ball volume pedal." The rest is straight up. |
