So I know this is not the normal post, but it relates to my music. Tonight I had one of the best times of my life at the Ohio Steel Guitar Association's Christmas Dinner. Because of my work and gig schedule, I hardly get to go to many of the events like I used to. There was never a dull moment. Between Kenny Krupnick eating all that fried chicken,Leland Darst showing off pics of his new Harley, and meeting Marshall Looney and Wilson Brinkley for the first time, that would have been enough. The highlight of my evening was being able to talk at length with Sonny Curtis about his time with George Jones and Tammy Wynette and the Clark steel guitar. What a blast ! For I consider myself a third rate hack, and to have a seat at the table across from ALL of these great players and to be able to listen to their stories and advice...is mind blowing to say the least. In the past five years I have been to 2 Mike Sigler seminars and 1 Joe Adams seminar, cut jokes with Phil Perry, and make a total fool of myself on stage Laughing . A big thank you to the man who continues to put it together, my friend and teacher Gary Preston. Oh yeah Gary's boss, Patty Preston ! To those of you in the Ohio area,if you're not attending the events, you are missing out ! I was so inspired when I got home,I picked the guitar for about an hour, much to the chagrin of my wife ! Laughing
