Pete is a master of Pedal Steel and whether you are a player or just a lover of steel guitar, this is one you should have in your collection. Pete is the UK's top pedal steel player and has been for the last 30 years. He is incredible on both necks. He doesn't find the need to promote himself like some others do, and just does his own thing. Probably the best C6 player in Europe, and one of the most modest.

I am so pleased and impressed at all the talent coming out of the UK. There are so many really great pickers there. They have been doing their homework.
Pete is one of the big talents. It takes just a listen or two to be convinced of that.

He has evidently been sitting there at home, developing his very own unique sound! Now we'll finally get to hear what this work has led to on his new CD.

Got it Dave. Tasty and restrained playing but it doesn't come anywhere near capturing what Pete is capable of playing. He is a monster player if you see and hear him up close in a live situation.

Ken I couldn't agree with you more, when it comes to Steel, Pete's heart is in his fingers and the bar. There are very few Steel players (even Stateside) that can match his playing. This CD is all we have for now and I hope we (steel players and fans of steel guitar) can persuade him to make more CD's. I can tell you my wife is not particularly a steel guitar fan but she absolutely loved this CD. So how about helping me persuade him????

Away back around 1979, my band was the support act to a band called Poacher in St Bride's church hall in Motherwell. I had only just started playing steel guitar and had a ZB student (I also played guitar). I saw this quiet unassuming guy set up a D10 Emmons push pull and thought "this guy must be really good to have one of those." As it turned out, he was not only good but brilliant. I introduced myself to him and told him I was just learning to play the pedal steel and he replied "We all had to learn sometime and I used to have one of thse ZB's." At the end of the gig, I asked him what type of blocking technique he used. I was probably beginning to annoy him by this stage as I had pestered him all night. He said "sit down at my guitar and I'll show you." This began the start of a free one hour steel guitar lesson. He then gave me his address and phone number and promised me to send me a steel guitar course, which he did. That man was the great Pete Haywood and I'll never forget him for his generosity, his humility and quiet sense of humour. I lost his phone number many years ago but have never forgotten him. He's the tops and could make it anywhere in the world.

It seems to me that the two adjectives you used describing Pete - humility and generosity - goes hand in hand with that person's level of professionalism.
This has been my observation as well when meeting a top level pro.

You're quite right! I couldn't have put it more succinctly myself. I've always found the true pros to be quite humble and very generous with their time and Pete most certainly comes under that category.

Two that come to my mind are Lloyd Green and Hal Rugg when I met them way back in the mid 70's. So I guess in a way that it puts Pete in the same class.

I truly wish Pete good luck with the sales of this CD. It is the kind of music that people deserve to hear.

The comments about class are very pertinent here. It is very rare to find a genuinely great player who has any arrogance or lack of humility. Pete Haywood has helped a great number of players of the years - quietly and without any ego whatsoever. He is a class act.
