I happened onto this just now. The steel player is Dennis Delorme and he does a real nice job...always, but especially on this tune that was a big hit in Canada a good many years ago.

Yes, Bill, That's good music. I remember going to a bar here in London in 1974 and listening to Prairie Oyster. They hadn't yet broke thru to stardom. I remember being so impressed by the singer playing a fretless bass guitar.

I think at that time they called Dennis Preacher or Reverend and I think he was playing a Fulawka.
I noticed he was playing an Emmons PP in the clip

Yes Pete, that's another favorite of mine. I read once that Dennis is reluctant to talk about his steel playing and something to the effect that he doesn't like to be categorized as a steel player, per se, but just as a musician. Could be that he plays several instruments. Whatever he is, his steel playing was a big part of the Prairie Oyster hits. You don't hear anything really flashy or technical perhaps, but very tasteful. Also great tone and his riffs are often the hooks to the songs.
Bent, you live in Ontario, didn't I hear that Prairie Oyster has regrouped and were playing again? Have you heard anything about that?

Bill, I didn't hear that. I didn't even know that they were split up...

The band just completed a new album in Perth, Ontario.
They are on the Open Road label. (a major Indie Label in Canada)

A 2010 tour is being planned.

So far the first scheduled appearance is in Newfoundland August 13th at the Blueberry Festival in St. George's. They will also perform two shows at the Summerfolk Festival in Owen Sound, ON before heading out on a string of dates throughout western Canada beginning August 24th.

When I was with George Fox in 1990 we did several shows with PO. A great bunch. Smile
