Nice color for sure! I like to see the single necks with 4 or 5 pedals. Makes me want to trade in my MSA. This economy sure sucks right now.

Hey Mike, does the SD-10 have to come with the bent cross shafts, or can it be ordered with the straight ones. I'd like to have a G2 if I could get the non bent version.
Thanks! |

Please TRUST me Chris, there is absolutely no disadvantage to the bent cross rods, and that is a permanent feature on the G2. |

Mike or Mickey,
The bent cross-shafts of the G2 seem to be poorly understood by forumites. I think people suspect the cross-shaft would act like a crank (the halves of the shaft move in opposite directions) rather than simply rotate like those on most other steels.
[BTW: I test drove a G2 at the Dallas show in 2008, and know the pulling system works nicely.]
I think if you put made a You-Tube video of the cross-shaft rotation with the pedals or levers being engaged & disengaged and then linked it to the forum, it would serve to de-mystify most of the "bent cross-shaft" misconceptions. |

I don't know why some folks have come up with the notion that the so-called, "bent cross shafts" on the new G2 guitars are some kind of disadvantage? Nothing could be further from the truth! I have owned and played every model guitar Mullen has made, and they are all great in my opinion, but I found that the G2 pedal and knee lever action is faster and smoother then ANY guitar I have ever played. I have also repaired, rebuilt, and totally refurbished many brands of steel guitars from the ground up, and I have yet to see anything that would surpass the quality and workmanship of the new Mullen G2 guitars. Not to toot my own horn here guys, but when you have been "under the hood" of as many steel guitars as I have over the past thirty years, I think my statements are something you can truly believe in.
The G2 wasn't by any means some passing thought of "lets just make it look different." On the contrary, the G2 has been years in the making, and a great deal of trial and error research has been done with a relentless goal to come up with something better than what the main stream has been doing pretty much the same for years. This is not to imply that other builders are doing things wrong, but rather, is a statement about a man with a very strong desire to truly make something better, and in my opinion, Del Mullen most certainly has obtained that with the new G2 design, and the cross rods are only part of the mechanical improvements in this guitar.
I think most will agree that Mullen guitars have always been praised for their beautiful tone and sustaining qualities, and you can rest assured that "tone" was first and foremost in the thought process when designing the new Mullen G2 guitar.
Regardless of what you may hear or read about the G2, the best way to prove (or disprove) this is to A&B one of the new Mullen G2 guitars yourself against what you currently are playing. I sincerely believe you will discover a huge difference literally within minutes of playing the G2.
The new Mullen G2 is not by any means just some sort of "smoke and mirrors design change" to make something look new and different, it is truly an "improvement" to functionality of steel guitar mechanics.
I would truly like to hear from some of you folks that have actually set down and played one of the new Mullen G2 guitars, and compared it to what you are currently playing. |

There has been 100 logged G2's built.
Also Dana Shaw got #2, not Del (Mickey)
Del has the very first Del Mullen Signature model ever built. It is not logged in the 100. |

Very good, Mickey ... I'm glad you've done this video which, I'm sure, will help set the "bent cross shaft" myth to rest for many players who might get a mistaken idea regarding it.
I know when I played your guitar and everything was so perfect, I was very surprised when you turned your guitar over and showed me the underside. Having already played the guitar and felt how perfect everything was, and then viewing the cross rod design and assembly at close hand, I could immediately see the innovative approach and logic behind it ... as well as the fact that it's one of those great ideas that really works! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________ 1986 Mullen D-10 with 8 & 7 (Dual Bill Lawrence 705 pickups each neck)

Mickey,
Great job. A picture is always worth a thousand words.
Mullen ought to put a link to this video on it's website.
I think most people just don't realize that the Mullen's cross-shaft only rotates a few degrees compared to something like a crankshaft, which is more steeply angled and rotates through 360 degrees. |
