I wanted to show off my new toy...a beautiful Mullen G2 featuring a gorgeous piece of solid purple heart wood front and laminate top/back. I play so much I was concerned about the wear and tear on a lacquer-body guitar but this is the best of both worlds. It has the beauty up front and durability at the most vulnerable parts of the guitar where it's needed! Oh, and it sounds fantastic. I have the Alumitone pickups in it and have done several sessions, TV, and gigs with it and the guitar sounds sweet. My thanks to Del, Mike, and especially Shaun at Mullen for building me this great one-of-a-kind guitar.

Tommy, are those small colorful patches rainbowy MOTS pieces to protect the metal neck where finger always seem to discolor the metal? Looks pretty! Gorgeous guitar. Still have your Zum? Have you made a complete switch? Astonishing if so!

Those colorful patches are another one of Tommy's insightful creations. The Protect-A-Neck patches do just that. Who would want to have worn places on the necks of a beautiful guitar like this? You can order yours from Tommy today! Lacquer front, mica top and back... who'd a thunk it? Pretty smart fella, whomever he is!

Tommy, a few random questions:
Can you share any recordings you've done with the G2? Love to hear it in your talented hands.
Your copedent any different now on the G2?
You still playing and recording with the PodXT? Do you record direct? How exactly do you play into a DAW?
Have you tried the Pod X3 or X3 Pro? If so, what's your take on that as far as added sounds, stompboxes, ease of recording, all that?

| Well Tommy, she sure looks pretty. I just wish Del and the boys would not have went to that off center cross shaft. I just can't see how it could pull inline with the changer. Those bell cranks have to sway to the side somewhat. That's just physics. Why couldnt they make it with straight cross shafts? Anyway, great looking guitar, and I hope she plays well for you. |

Thanks to all of you for your kind comments about my new G2. (John M, I sent you an email to answer your questions.)
And, Roger C., thanks for plugging my "Protect-A-Neck" pick guards. I came up with those a little over a year ago after realizing how many guitars were coming thru my shop with a wear pattern on the necks. So, it is a fairly inexpensive safe-guard product that protects of our hefty investment. And, it looks pretty cool, too. |

Great looking guitar! I'll bet it plays like a dream and sounds even better. I hope some day I can afford to have Del build me a G2 U-12. For now, I'm still loving the guitar he built me back in 1997. Hats off to Del and the gang.

FWIW I replaced the TruTones in my Carter D10 with Alumitones and the sound is the same as it was; clear string-to-string definition, bell-like highs, resonant lows, clear mids...and absolutely no hum!
By extrapolation I think you would get the same result with Alumitones in a Mullen. Almost a "marriage made in steel-guitar heaven", IMHO.
