This was always confusing to me. This is something that evidently people do to other people. In the bible they stoned people. I hear "we will rock you", "I'm going to rock your world", "we're going to rock", "rock out", etc.... I've never heard ayone say "we're going to country you", or "we're going to jazz you" etc... I have heard people say "I'm going to pop you one" which means a slap up the side of the head, or maybe something more intimate.

Hey Rick, people still get stoned, but in the Western world the connotation has changed.
Does anyone know when the whole "rock you" thing got started? Does this go back to the old "race records" thing or a newer phenomenon? _________________ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I think the first recorded song with reference to "rock" was "My Man Rocks Me (With One Steady Roll)" by Trixie Smith in May 1922.
For the historians, that was a month before what is recognized as the first ever "country" music recording, of the song "Sally Goodin'" by Eck Robertson.
So singin' about "rock me" has been around longer than recorded country music! _________________ http://www.oldbluesound.com/about.htm

I can't find much to like about it either.
Nobody has addressed my question. Why doesn't anyone ever say: "We will country you", or "This show was really countrying"?

You might be on to something there. Either way, I think it's a really stupid song. |
