Or the E equivallent of C6, anyway. I can't get my guitar (old Sho Bud 8-string) to take a .012 or under gauge for the high G#. Keeps breaking. I've checked for burrs, filed, and even switched tuning gears with a different string, but...no luck. I can live with C6 on there, but I really like the E13 tuning I use on my laps. Is there still likely a burr situation, or am I asking too much from the length of the scale? I haven't measured the scale, so is it longer than the long scale of a lap? The strings don't even feel that taut before they snap. Surely a .014 would be too much of a strain to pull to a G#? I'm shell-shocked from steel guitar string breaks, so it's like defusing a bomb when I put the lighter-gauge strings on...

Chances are, the scale length on your resonator is too long to accept a G#.
When the pedal steel was being developed, a 24" to 24 1/4" scale was deemed to be just about the maximum. You can get by with a longer scale length if you use a keyless tuning head. |

| You can use a standard set of G tuning Dobro strings to tune down to get A6th or Bb6th on a reso enharmonic to C6th (ECAGEC). |

Okay, Erv. While I'm glad it's not a suspicious tuning gear, it's a little sad to know it won't do the E tuning.
Andy and Drew: The ECAGEC#CA is what I've been using since I got it almost a year ago...when I first tried the E tuning...then I just tried again after getting some new .012 Jags from Bobby! It was like throwing money into a slot machine watching them break.
