I posted this in another thread but thought I'd re-address it for everyone. The peeps who know your pc best, MS, have finally after we went thru beta and rc testing,made a comprehensive security suite for windows. It is small,unobtrusive, has a small footprint in resource usage and is fast both in scanning and allowing apps such as browsers to load quickly. Best part is it's FREE, and updates automatically and updates are.....FREE.As far as protection we found detection and fix rate as good or better as the more prevalent sw ie: Norton/Symantec, McAfee, AVG, Trendmicro, Avast, and Node 32. Although another free app "MalwareBytes showed an edge on detecting drive-bys, and pups. Get it here..http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/ |

NO! You will have to uninstall them, or the MS-BS to avoid serious conflicts.
Giant Anti-Spyware begat Microsoft Anti-Spyware, which begat Windows Defender, which begat Windows Live One Care, which begat Windows Security Essentials. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

No matter what brand of security suite you prefer, only use one that contains a real-time monitor. This includes all anti-virus products. If you try to run two different brands of a realtime monitoring security program your PC may grind to a halt every time you open or download a file.
The same advice applies to firewalls.
You may add anti-spyware/malware scanners that only scan for threats on demand, to your heart's content. Some of these are specialty scanners for bots, or changes to home and search pages, or particular types of malware that are different than viruses.
But, if you already have a top-notch, state of the art, up-to-date, brand name security suite, or one you have pieced together yourself, and it is protecting your computer from all known malware and viruses, there is no need to drop it and switch to another brand, just because it is new or free.
However, if you are reading this thread and are not using a brand name security program, or any at all, and you are operating as a computer administrator, you will be benefited by trying out this new security offering from Microsoft. It is definitely better than no security.
Note, that only validly licensed copies of Windows XP or newer qualify to use Windows Security Essentials. Pirates need not apply.
Supported Operating Systems
* Windows XP 32‐bit
* Windows Vista/WIN7 32‐bit
* Windows Vista/WIN7 64‐bit _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum
