I'm trying to change the copedent a bit on my guitar to a more "standard" one. With that in mind, I'm putting two changes on RKR:
1st string (E) raise to F#. I got that one without a problem.
6th string (G#) lower to F#. This one doesn't seem to be working. No matter what I've tried (changing position on changer, changing lever travel) I can only get it to drop a half step, not the whole step I'm looking for.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

--Mike

Changing the bellcrank position can fix it, though you've probably tried that already. Also, adjusting the return spring can help if it's too tight or something.

Yeah, it is on my Thomas; I'm trying to make it a bit more "user friendly".
I haven't yet tried changing the tension on the return spring. I will check it out though.

Mike, are you using a wound 6th? A lot of guitars can't do it. My Sho-Bud couldn't, so I tried a plain and got the change easily. (With me the change didn't stay, but that's another story).

If you're already using a plain string... my apologies.

What is the size of your 6th string? Wound or unwound?

Ah the string gauge! It's a VERY wound .026. I was speaking in "E9" for clarity, but the truth is, the guitar is setup for "D9" so the strings are a bit heavy. I'll see what sort of heavy unwound string I can put on.

Meanwhile, thanks again for the phone number Dick; I'll give him a call tomorrow.

mike, i think most people use about a 20..maybe 22 plain on that string. the wound string won't drop that far. you'll probably be happier in he long run going back to a normal e9 with a new set of strings.

Mike sent an email with instructions on getting this change working properly. If you have any questions, I will be happy to talk you through it on the phone. Your changer spring tension shouldn't come into play, unless the lever is loaded up on both necks...MICK

If you have a split-tuning setscrew at the top of the changer, make sure that you wind it out first Winking

4 things=

1st. right string gauge 20 or 22

2nd. Pedal or lever travel

3rd. spring return

4th. bellcrank position

one of those should fix it. Smile

good luck.
