I heard a new guy last night, real country music... not the old 3 chord stuff, but really good sounding, well written, produced and composed real country music.
The singers name is Easton Corbin. Here's a link to his pages and some samples of his music.

I couldn't ID the steel player until I saw that
Carson Chamberlain is his producer and probably played steel on the tracks. |

Good singer, nice songs, nice playing............but, more of those loud, stick out like a sore thumb, drums. I could enjoy it so much more without that. My ears opinion anyway. ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

I agree, including the loud drums. I think this drum sound might be a product of the line dancing industry. To me it takes away from the song. Just my taste.
There seems to be a lot of cookie cutter vocals out there now. They all sound alike. Mel Street, Del Reeves, Pay Price, Marty Robbins, Earnest Tubb, Buck Owens, John Conley, John Anderson, Bill Anderson, Lynn Anderson, Loretta Lynn, Conway, and lot's of others........ there was no mistaking their voices. I believe the new guys could sing one another's songs and nothing but a real die hard fan would notice the difference, if then.
I suppose that makes it easier to keep up with. It's obviously working for them, but it doesn't get my musical interest needle to go beyond boring on the excitement meter. |

Oh let's see, what makes me happy?
Old Dogs
Children
Watermellon Wine
The smell of carnival food
Ray Pillow singing "One Too Many Memories" on the Opry with Weldon Myrick playing steel.
Ketchup in the squeeze bottle.
There's probably other things too, but I'll need to think on it. ![Laughing](images/smiles/icon_lol.gif) |

Okay, I get the joke, or maybe it's not a joke,......either way we can have a laugh about it. Having certain likes, dislikes, and taste factors in music is nothing to be ashamed of, and there's no reason to avoid discussion about it. It's people that feel intimidated by discussion that would prefer to use the Rose Colored Glasses approach. I know that there's a lot of people that don't care for my music, and that's okay, and I'm not offended if they tell me so. What really hurts is when they ask for a CD and act all excited about it, and then a month later I see it sitting on their desk unopened.
People need to get an understanding that having an opinion about a certain part of a song, etc... is not always a negative thing. It's just a statement of preference.
This would be like not putting any salt on your food because you don't want to hurt the chef's feelings.

Huge thumbs up on this Easton Corbin tune .. " A Little More Country than that".
The second verse he sings about the steel guitar: .. "when a steel ride, thats so strong it sends chills up your back"
Great line. Great song. Stunning Steel work! _________________ Boston area country musician
