Your help is needed! Our good buddy, Forumite, and steeler extraordinaire, Mike Smith, and his band, 'The Mike & T Band' are within 2 percentage points of pulling into second place in the Arizona Foothills Best Local Band competition.

WE, the Steel Guitar Community, can PUSH THEM OVER THE LINE TONIGHT, if every one of us goes to place ONE VOTE for 'The Mike & T Band' at the following link:

http://www.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com/voting/voting/89.html

Let's show them the awesome POWER of the Steel Guitar Community! When we put our collective minds to making something happen, we can DO it!

Please go cast your vote now (their band is listed 4th from the bottom, so scroll down). You'll have to type in the two words in the 'Captcha' box at the bottom. Don't worry if you can't make out every single letter -- the program is pretty forgiving if you make a mistake or two. Also, you do NOT have to observe the Capital Letters. Just type everything in lower case, and it'll be fine.

Thanks for your help tonight. Let's PUSH THEM INTO SECOND PLACE TONIGHT! Click here: http://www.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com/voting/voting/89.html

Nah, we don't care. It's just a popularity contest; that's the way it's structured. So we're just helpin' out a Fo'Bro. Heck, we'd even do the same for YOU! Wink

Um ...

Maybe not every one, but I actually did go to websites for all the 'contenders' I could find. There are some good bands, no doubt. If I didn't really think Mike and T. were deserving, I wouldn't argue for pushing this. I admit I'm biased - but listen to the steel playing and then tell me who's better, and I'll bet a lot of us feel like this.

Do you really think whoever was/were (I believe) pushing scripts to get tens of thousands of votes overnight are this intellectually honest about this kind of contest? Seriously?

Of course, Jim's right, this is a popularity contest - your criterion for voting would be analogous to making political voters pass a knowledge test about the candidates. Right. Wink

No, I didn't listen to them all, but Mike Smith remains one of my very favourite steel players of all time! My single vote isn't going to change his life but, if it's of any use, I was happy to do it.

I DID listen to the band's clip when this was first mentioned here on the Forum. I was hoping to hear some great playing and I wasn't disappointed - Mike's tone is so special, and his touch and control bewilder me every time I hear him.

Anyway - even if he hadn't done anything except 'Jesus Loves Me' from his old album, 'Dreams Of India', he'd STILL be one of my top-five favourite players; he's such a fine musician!

My vote was just a small nod for all the pleasure I've had listening to him.
