I play a Tele and a Maverick. In your opinion which would be a better choice. A Bandit 65 or a Special 130? _________________ Sho-bud Maverick, Oahu lapsteel, Regal Dobro, Peavey DueceII, ES340 Gibson, Fender Telecaster Mexico, Suzuki Acoustic |

I use a Bandit 65, and I've had a Special 130. I like the Bandit for tone, and the fact that it plays well with pedals; if that doesn't matter and you are mostly concerned with clarity, the 130 might be better. I think for the tele the Bandit is obviously the choice. |

I also play steel through a bandit a lot. I did change the speaker. The scorpion that came in it is more of an aggressive metal sounding speaker. Change the speaker, and it will sound great. I use it for single neck E9 stuff, where the volume is low, or the amp is miced. It is plenty loud for most situations that I play in. I use bigger amps if I need to use C6, to get the clean volume, and big tone on the low notes.
I have wanted to try a special, as I think it's a very simmilar amp just louder, but I haven't. If someone else has tried one and hated it, maybe they can save both of us the trouble.
Also, I know the special will be heavier. Thats the big thing foe me. I can easily carry a single E9 and the bandit, and sit in a normal chair, and It doesn't take me all night to haul my stuff, and my back don't hurt. And I get nothing but compliments about the sound of the amp. |
