Hi all, I am considering an upgrade from my Carter Starter to a Carpsteel and would like to hear opinions on this instrument from those who have seen and played them. Thank you! _________________ Boston area country musician

I have seen and played both guitar mentioned..
You wont be disappionted with the CarpSteel..
It is well built.. I will be getting one soon myself..
Why not consider that bit extra and get an SD10 ?
I think you would find them more comfortable..

Compared to a Carter Starter? No comparison. The carpsteel blows the competition away. The Carpsteel has a professional changer with triple raise/triple lower, and knee levers are professional grade. The overall feel of the guitar is very solid. You can't say that about the Carter Starter. Unheard of in an entry level guitar. The Carpsteel is well worth the extra money it cost over the Carter Starter. YMMV |

I got one last March & couldn't be happier with it. It plays as good as any "pro" steel I've ever played. Now I can leave the 'Bud in the studio & travel light. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/davidagriffin |

I sell Rains Guitars as well as the Carpsteel and Leo and I were e-mailing back and forth and I suggested that he simply get here on the forum and ask folks who own one or played one for comments. I have one here in my studio and found that it played and sounded great. I am very impressed with the changer and the fact that you can change anything around much like you would on any other pro guitar. But because I sell them and basically stand behind Rains Guitar products period, I thought it might be nice to get the info from someone other than me. By the way...folks who purchase a Rains guitar from me also get a free Walker Seat from now until Christmas.

Also for those of you who may have missed it....clcik on the link below to hear and see Gary Carpenter playing the Carpsteel. Just going straight from the guitar to the amp so you know the sound is unmolested and pure. Heck watch all three of the videos

Rich, the two main differences that I can point out is that the Carpsteel is an all aluminum body. But don't let that scare you away. The tone is incredible. And the other is that it is a single on a single frame. Gary calls this a beginner/pro guitar and I personally think that he is being way to modest. The only thing beginner about it to me is the fact that it is less expensive than the other model pedal steel guitars that he makes....but on the other hand, it makes a great second guitar to take to practices or little jam sessions you might have with the guys and gals you hang out with. If a beginner player were to buy the guitar, he can change things on the guitar as he or she progresses which means that he or she can and probably will play it for a longer period of time before choosing to go on to other guitars Gary makes. Then again that person may stay with the Carpsteel forever. It's also a great second guitar to keep set up at home to woodshed your licks on. The pickup is wound to 19.5 I believe and was made for this guitar. It suites the guitar very well. The coolest part, I think, is that if you want to change it from Emmons to Day setup...it's a breeze and did I mention triple raise/triple lower changer Heck if you wanted I think you can even configure it for C6th style playing and do a little woodshedding that way and then make a decision later on if you want to add a second neck for your playing. Hope this info helps

I think the confusion is with Stage One, which has been licenced out by ZumSteel. |
