Hello Everyone,

Tomorrow my first pedal steel is arriving, a Fessenden SD 10. Feels like christmas when I was six.

I have been in contact with Jerry, he mentioned the importance of it being in good playing condition. Not having ever setup and played a psg I am curious about how you all go about asessing the playing condition of a used guitar.

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration

Ed

Ed...I am going under the assumption that you purchased the guitar used.... The primary thing to check is the mechanics. My first step would be, after setup and tuning and before plugging it in, to press and release all pedals and knee levers to be certain they are operating smoothly while listening carefully for any sound of metal to metal contact which could be an indication that something underneath the unit is binding. If all of this checks out well, plug it in and check the pickup.
Note: The bellcranks on Fessenden Guitars have open ended slots into which the pullrods are placed and during transport one or more of the pullrods may have become dislodged and fallen out of its slot so this should be checked before initially removing the guitar from the case. If this occurs, myself or other Forum members can help remedy the problem.... Fessendens are fine instruments, IMO you have made a wise purchase. Best of luck and hope this information proves useful.
