Over the last 5 days I've been made aware of the fact that one of our well known Forumites and legendary steel player is facing some definite financial and family health problems. I've discussed this with a couple of good folks who have given me several suggestions, but I think that the following will probably fill the bill.

I have a mint MSA Super Small, all wood, factory SD-10 axe with my tuning on it. It is Walnut and in super fine condition. I just finished a conversation with Maurice Anderson of MSA Pedal Steels, and he's agreed for the MSA boys to set this little honey up in whatever 3 floor and 4 knee configurations the buyer wants. And the guys at MSA will autograph the little rascal.

We're gonna' sell this little honey and send all the money to this super guy and his family. Just as Maurice said it's time some of us give back to the folks who pioneered this tremendous instrument and besides I can't take it with me.

I'll soon be 72 years young, and Reece ain't far behind me. Too, it's an all wood guitar and if I could take it with me, it would probably look like a cigarette ash before I got through the door to eternity.

When this little jewel is cleaned up, it should be worth $1500, and that's the price for the horn. The case is in good condition with a couple of snags, but nothing serious.

The listing will be here on the Forum and we're hoping b0b will bypass the commission sale fee as his part. Without the Forum we wouldn't even be aware of this situation.

Who is this person? To reveal his name would just be an embarrassment to that individual and folks you'll just have to accept my word that the bucks are needed.

Ricky Davis, if I send you the pics, will you post them for us? The listing will be in the For Sale Instruments under "Shannon's MSA For Sale".

Thanks folks.

I was very emotional when Fred informed me of the unfortunate and heartbreaking circumstances concerning a fellow steel player. It had a great impact on me because the man to whom he is refering is a long time dear friend of mine as well.

I was also inspired and emotional when recognizing the fact Fred is willing to give up something he has loved and cheerished for a long time, in behalf of a friend in need.

The MSA team is honored to be asked by Fred to participate, and the new owner will find the little SS to be a great playing, great sounding lightweight guitar.

In addition, the new owner can be proud every time they sit behind the guitar by knowing they too helped a fellow steel player in dire need, and that it was given from the heart.

Fred is a perfect example of compassion, and that which personifies the true spirit of giving.

Inspiration is all around those who open their mind and heart. I'm honored to consider Fred and the man to whom he is trying to help, as dear "friends" in the truest spirit of the word.

Fred,
I recently bought a new steel myself, so as you can imagine,my bank account is hurting...But I think a great many of us may know this beloved steeler that you and Reece speak of. Would you be willing to accept donations on his behalf? If so please just say the word and give a mailing adress, and mine is on the way....Thank you both!

Please by all means let's find a way for all interested to contribute to whomever this player is! It's very apparent from Fred and Reece's posts this means a lot to them and maybe we can pitch in on their behalf! Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I just bought a new Steel also but if everyone on the Forum would send $10.00 to Fred it would help more than Fred selling his Steel. What do you say guys this will be a lot more than $1500.00. Thats what us steel players are about helping one another out. So let do it.Give us a address to send a check too.

Fred:
While I can understand the reluctance of the person involved to be identified; pride, embarrasment and so on, this is not the place to be ashamed of who you are. (the person involved)

We are a brotherhood. We wear our hearts on our sleeves. We help each other in many ways. We are not proud. We are just people.

While we would help, we need to know who we are helping. Not to call out his name to the world, but to know who to both help and pray for.

It is unfair to ask us to donate to an unknown person, when we understand one of us, a brother in the psg, can use our help.

"It is unfair to ask us to donate to an unknown person, when we understand one of us, a brother in the psg, can use our help."

Ken, with all due respect, we are not asking for donations. I've had several emails suggesting that very thing and you can read some posts here doing just that. However, there is a product for sale and the monies received from that product is to be donated to this gentleman and his family.

Reece and I decided to use this method of providing some much needed assistance to this family because we knew if we asked for donations individuals would want to know who the person is. And Ken that is a legitimate request. I would want to know the same thing.

There are many here who know exactly who it is and I'm not trying to keep anyone in the dark, but Reece and I gave our word we would not reveal this person's name and we'll stick to that.

The instrument, when properly setup, and I can't think of anyone more qualified to do that than Johnny Cox and/or Junior Knight, will certainly be worth what we've suggested. The SS guitar, along with the case, is in super condition, and a good tuneup makes it one of the best I've seen in a long while.

I bought this guitar in Arizona some years back for $1100 and it was worth more than that then. It has been played very little by me because I really think it is a collector's item, it's that well maintained. But there comes a time when priorities have to be changed and this guitar is the only one I have that is worth that much money with the exception of the Millennium I play 3 and 4 nites a week.

Ken I appreciate your concern and I hope this makes sense to you. If the guitar doesnt' sell we'll have to look for a new method to help this family. That's all there is to it.

Fred,
This is really a very nice thing for you to do....It seems like there are folks that wouldn't mind contributing to the cause, but don't have the money for your pedal steel....Maybe a raffle at $20 a pop would be in order.... Just a suggestion ....This way everybody gets'a shot at owning a pedal steel .... You could even limit the raffle to 100 entries to make the odd's really good, and you would end up with more than the $1500 you are trying to get for the steel ....God Bless you for your acts of kindness, and thanks to Reece for his participation also ....Sincerely, Jim

"IT'S SOLD AND THE CHECK'S IN THE MAIL"

The little MSA SS has been sold to one of the nicest gentlemen I've ever met. Mr. Lane Hogan of Bartlesville, Oklahome bought the little sweety and I'm on my way with the guitar to Dallas in the AM. Reece and the MSA boys are gonna' fine tune this lil' darlin' and then it will be shipped to Lane via UPS.

Reece, the guys/gals at MSA, and I want to thank the members of this forum for the tremendous onslaught of suggestions, offers of donations, and the overwhelming response from several members of this unique place.

Thanks to you b0b for making it available. Without the Forum we would probably never known of the need of one of its members.

I talked to the recepient of the money this AM and he's very reluctant to accept the funds, but I know he'll understand the love of receiving because he's been giving all his adult life. I, again, tried to explain to him about our caring kin here on the Forum, but his pride is higher than "Sputnik" and I can understand that.

One never know when misfortune puts his foot out and trips you. If and when it does, God forbid, just remember the Forumites are willing and ready to render assistance. You can bet on it. The last count I had was over 80 emails in my box relative to this effort. Thanks to you all, and may the Great One watch over you and yours.

Thanking you forever

Reece, MSA, and Fred

Hey guys and gals,

Fred and Reece have proven their worth by this act of kindness and friendship. May God bless them and may He also bless the buyer, Mr. Hogan.

Folks, I just returned from a little 600 mile round trip to Dallas and delivered the little dumplin' to the folks at MSA. Kyle met me at the door and we gave the guitar to the one and only Junior Knight. He'll be settin' it up for Lane Hogan, the generous soul who bought the MSA SS.

Also the check's in the mail to our friend in need, and should be there no later than Friday. Thanks to everyone who helped by word of mouth, and thanks to b0b for the Forum. Without it things could have been a heck of a lot worse.
