Hi Mike,
What I have is: a slightly folorn looking old feller I pulled from my '74 MSA Classic. My reason for thinking it's a Sho~Bud is because I heard a good few people replaced the original pickups in these guitars with S~B pups (and it looks like one to my untrained eye).
Cosmeticallly, it's seen better days - there are a few spots of rust on the pole pieces and the corners have been lopped off the bottom plate, presumably to make it fit the MSA.
I swapped it for a Truetone because I suspected it of giving some weird harmonic overtones - turns out it wasn't the culprit, so I don't think there's anything wong with it sound wise. It has to be said, the Truetone is rather dapper with it's smart white trim and it's big fat midrange, so it's staying put.
Now that sad ol' 'S~B' is homeless, sitting on a shelf waiting for some pretty little fingertip to walk by and make it sing again...
Well, if you didn't get a lump in your throat at least you got a bump to the top^^^.

Johnathan, I am collecting as many "Orphan" PSG parts that I can afford. I want to get these parts out of the garage junk boxes and back to making music. I am interested in all parts, even pickups that need to be rewound. If it is within my price range, it will have a good home someday soon. Email me. Thank, Fred |

I might possibly be replacing the stock pickups in my '73 Pro-II in a while. I'll save a shortcut to this thread and check back with you if I do. |
