Have any of you guys tried out the Nano on steel guitar? I'm looking for a real basic stomp box to use with my little Guyatone Micro Delay. I don't use much reverb, but I like to blend some in with the delay. I'm not looking for anything fancy. It looks like the Nano is about as small as the Guyatone. I wonder about the hiss-factor. I know the old EH pedals had lots of hiss.

I have the original Holy Grail reverb which is larger but has exactly the same controls. It's a great emulation of the spring reverb sound. It basically changes my Princeton into a Princeton Reverb. I don't know if the Nano is different or not, but I suspect that it's the same circuit in a smaller package.
If I turn up real loud I can hear a very small amount of noise from the unit. It's way below the noise floor of your average single coil pickup, though. For all practical purposes, even when recording, I would classify this effect as "extremely quiet".
"Not fancy" is a great description, too. I only use the spring reverb setting, so it's basically one knob: reverb. I leave it turned on all the time and twist the knob higher for slow songs.
Some reviews I've seen say that it is noisy. I think that maybe there were quality control issues in manufacturing at one time. Anyone who has returned a defective one for replacement seems to have gotten a good one the second time. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

I've been using a Nano for a couple of months now since I finally retired the Boss RV-3, and it is certainly a nice little unit. Clear sounding and a good range on the one knob for amount of reverb. I run it out front of the amp, with a delay (Ibanez analog) into it. BTW, the Ibanez is not what I like---it colors the sound a lot. But the Nano doesn't color the tone much that I can tell. |

I like the Alesis NanoVerb--is that what we're talking about?--alright for non-pedal steel and Telecaster. It's not great--sounds a little too digital for me--but it's okay. I like running it in stereo through two small tube amps. Nice slapback and rotary speaker simulations. But I had to try a bunch of the reverb settings before I found one I liked. |

No, the Holy Grail Nano is made by Electro-Harmonix. The Alesis NanoVerb is a different box by a different manufacturer. I had one once. It broke. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

They sound alike to me. on that video anyway. The taper of the pot might be a bit different, but the effect is the same. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

That was my take on it, too, b0b. Thanks for posting that, Dave.
I'm going to Guitar Center this afternoon, to pick up a Nano.....if I can get someone to wait on me. They may not be able to see me.

Thanks for all the input.

Just got back from Guitar Center. After hitting me with their invisibility ray, I quickly faded into just a wisp of vapor, acknowledged only by a couple of other customers who had passed through the ray before me.
Within about 5 minutes, though, the cash in my pocket set off an alarm and a nice salesman, named George, asked me if he could help me. I could see that he had slipped on some special eyeglasses, allowing him to see me. I told him I was interested in purchasing a Holy Grail Nano. He grinned and said he thought he still had a couple in stock. The box on the first one he located was a bit bent, so he went in search of another one. He quickly found the other one that was showing on the computer system. It was in great shape. I just plugged it in to my amp and it sounds great. No hiss at all. I'm not sure which setting I like better - hall or spring. They both sound very nice.

There is a new model called the Holy Grail plus that is supposed to be an improvement on the original model. I'm looking at that one. |

It is unclear on Guitar Center site whether it will accept a 9v. battery or will only work with an external 9v. supply and if the power supply is included in the price. Anybody know? _________________ LeGrande II, Nash. 112, Fender Twin Tone Master, Session 400, Harlow Dobro, R.Q.Jones Dobro |

There are no provisions for a battery in the HG Nano, wall-wart only. The wall-wart comes with the unit, though!
I've been playing around with my new Nano today. I think I like the Hall setting better than the Spring. I can set the knob at 9:00 o'clock for most tunes and move it up to about 10:00 o'clock or so for slow ballads and such. I think it's a keeper.
With regard to hiss: It will get very hissy if you crank it up past 12:00; however, I can't imagine ever wanting that much reverb. Anything below 12:00 o'clock is quiet.
