I am using a 200 watt Peavey LA 400 and there is one jack in the back for patching in effects. No send or return and I can't get it to work. Here's what the manual says:
"To allow in line patching of battery of AC powered effects and processors we have incorporated a simple out/in jack on the back panel. The out/in jack (post EQ) is a 1/4" ring/tip/sleeve configuration where the tip portion of the jack serves as the preamp output while the ring acts as the power amp input or return. The sleeve is ground. A typical patch for this out/in jack would be to utilize a "Y" cord and connect the output portion of the "Y" to the input of the device. The return portion of the 'Y" is then connected to the output of the device which will return the processed signal to the amp"
I tried to hook my delay in a Y into this jack but it didn't work. I took the male plugs of the Y and connected one to the input of the delay and the other to the output and the female part of the Y was connected to a patch cord to the amp jack.I think that's what the manual meant but I'm not sure. Anyone know how to use this one jack setup for an effects loop? Do I need stereo cords? All the jacks should work since I had Ken Fox do his great mod and checkup on it. Thanks for your help.

That is a typical "TRS" type jack. You need a STEREO plug with the "TIP" (end) connected to the INPUT of the Effect. The OUTPUT of the Effect is connected to the RING (Middle)on the plug. And the "Sleeve" is the ground.

If you have a STEREO Plug/Y cable then you can do it.

Thanks so much for your expertise, Jack. No wonder why my normal radio shack Y cable wouldn't work. I never heard of a TRS Y cord before. The manual never mentioned what kind of Y cable to use. I just ordered one!

A lot of music stores carry these under the name "insert cables." Usually the send and return ends are labeled and are different colors. I am pretty sure Hosa makes one.
