A couple weeks ago Todd Clinesmith came down from his home in Oregon to Humboldt County, California and filled Shamu's T-Bone eatery with wonderful steel guitar sounds, playing the evening with Ken and Maria Jorgansen.

Shamus' is located on Highway 36 at Carlotta and is about thirty miles south east of Eureka.

Ken and Maria Jorgansen are the makers of 'Blue Harron' instrument cases, and well made to say the least.
It was a wonderful evening. |

Hey, lookin' good there, Todd. Nice to see you getting out to play. All work and no play (even if you are building guitars) is no good! You could use one of Mark Roeder's stands there for that beauty, for sure. I have one sitting here and it's real nice.
Ken and Maria make a nice little gig bag. I have one of them here. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Hi Todd
What are you playing through? I bet whatever it is that steel sounds great. I plan on playing my Clinesmith through a Gibson GA-20. _________________ www.deluxe34.com lap steel stands, Clinesmith, Gibson Console Grande, Northwesterns, The Best Westerns

Hi Richard, thanks for posting the photos. I hope you enjoyed yourself. Ken and Maria J are great friends and musicians.
Yeah Thanks Mike. I don't get out too often, wish I could more often. I hope to get something stirred up this way over the Winter. Seems like all the folks I know who are into Western Swing in the area are steel players
I just got one of Marks stands, it works great , next time I am out with my single neck it will be with me.
Mark,
It is a borrowed Blues Jr. I have one I usually take to small gigs too. It's a good amp for the $$. This tweed one shown is a bit brighter than mine, which I don't like and I have the reverb set to about 1 on it, which is almost too much.
IMO a Gibson amp would work better with my guitars, for a fuller tone, also not as concentated on the trebile which I do like I have a Magnatone Triplex that I should be taking out.... next time.
Hard to see, but I am using one of Marty Smith's Tapered Bigsby style Bars... It's a great bar. |

Thanks for posting these pix, Richard.
It's heartening to see builders out there playing in live settings.
I mean, great guitars are truly works of art, but it's the playing that really brings us all together, whether it's here on the forums, live shows, or at conventions.
Great job, Todd! _________________ Lap-n-Console Steel Guitar Lessons |

Josh you are correct.
Music came first for me, and when it comes down to it , it still does. Tho I spend a lot more time building and some months rarely play or practice it all comes down to music and inspiration. I have a family now, so that pushes play time even farther back.
In the shop I am always listening to music, some times I will listen to the same recording for a day or two straight, it helps me get to know a players style or a few tunes with out even touching a guitar.
Thanks for the comments. |
