Just found out today that we've been nominated for the "Best Band" of the Valley in Arizona Foothills Magazine. There are some really good bands listed here so it's cool for us to just to be in the running. To vote, go to http://arizonafoothillsmagazine.com/voting/voting/89.html scroll down the page to "The Mike & T Band" and click the circle next to our name, then click "submit". You're only allowed one vote per day.
I've always been a bit iffy about any contest based on popularity votes, but then again, the Grammy's are all vote based. We'll take and appreciate any votes we can get!
Thanks,
Mike

Well, I just voted for you guys, Mike, cuz it's hard for me imagine any better band than yours.
Having said that, my measly one vote only moved the dial from 0.08 to 0.09. That means that the leading band, Pheed, has over 6,000 votes so far. You guys better get on the stick! (Actually why don't they just pick the band with the largest mailing list; isn't that all this is after all? )
Personally, I think Pheed programmed a web-bot to enter 6,000 votes automatically. It's very suspicious indeed!
Good luck, pal. You guys are great.

You got my vote, you guys are the best, although I believe Jim Cohen pretty much spelled it out. You need a bigger mailing list. |

Thanks so much everyone! Well, I wish we'd known about this from the time it happened (Sept. 2nd). But if the band "Pheed" continues to grow votes at the rate of an average of 2,000 per week, I doubt anyone can catch them. By the Dec. 2nd end of voting, they should have over 27,000 votes. It's funny that nobody around here seems to have ever heard of them : ) Some of the really amazing bands on there haven't received many votes at all (they may not know about this as yet and...I probably won't saying anything). _________________ Mike S.

Received an email from someone who'd received the band contest info and they wanted to know why I thought we were the "best band". That's a fair question. The simple answer is that I don't think we're the "best band", I'm just not that pompus. Of course, I'm very proud of our group and the hard work that we put into this full-time pursuit but the term "best" in itself is completely subjective. This particular contest (based on the bands that are listed) is based on contemporary bands performing mostly Pop, Rock and Smooth Jazz (which is a fairly wide category in itself). To most of the agents, destination managers and planners in our region, we're known as a Country Band who can also perform all contemporary for an event (Oddly enough, when we do contemporary only, we call ourselves "The MTB Band"...who knows why they used the most common name). So, for us, it really is cool that we're considered good enough to rub elbows with the bands that specialize in these genres. After all, T and I are just hillbillies who love Country and a lot of other good stuff.
So, to hopefully wrap up the subject...I personally don't see the true existence of one, single "best band". In this nomination list alone, there are many awesome bands but we all have folks who, for whatever reason, particularly enjoy what each of us does more than another. But still, I'll take those votes with no shame! That includes France (thanks!) and every other location. Wish i could snap my fingers and make healthcare make sense and be really affordable for everyone. _________________ Mike S.

Thanks for the votes everyone!! Although we've not come close to the leader of the pack, we have crossed the "100 votes" line Unless they add another band along the way, ours is the only group with pedal steel. _________________ Mike S.

Thanks to each of you for the votes!! (Dang, I feel like a politician) We're all like little kids with this thang (T, me and the band) and definately having fun. No we won't win cars or money (maybe I should check that out) but I suspect the winner will get something of promotional value locally and that'll be cool at the very least.
A local friend said they went to another category in the contest and placed an arbitrary vote for one of the leaders which already had a high number. They said their vote moved that number up by "5". I've also noticed that the leading band's total percentage number has come down a bit. I suppose there is some type of sliding scale and once you're in the higher number, each vote counts for more. Maybe we'll get in the higher number eventually. Again, thanks so much for voting for our little band of hillbillies! _________________ Mike S.
