After my first trip ever to the convention this year, i was confused as to why i did not see Tommy White in the SGHOF!
So i emailed and ask why? The response i received was, if i wanted to nominate Tommy White there is a form to fill out and 7 question to be anwsered along with information to be supplied to back it up!

Wow, i couldn't begin to anwser the questions so i emailed Tommy and ask him about it. Tom Bradshaw nominated Tommy White last year and 40 years of information has been supplied! Based on this why was he not inducted?

Bottom line is i feel he should already be there so i'm on a major rally to support his nomination this year!
Let's see support by commenting on this post to have Tommy White entered in the "Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame" in 2010!! HE DESERVES IT WITHOUT QUESTION!!!

Thanks!
kenny

The 2010 SGHOF inductees were selected this year at the Convention. Tommy could be voted in next year for induction in 2011. He has already been nominated.

They only do a few people each year! I am sure Tommy White's induction is just a matter of time.

Terry Bethel is another one that I think should be in there. He has been nominated before, but no luck so far. Hope to see him there one day soon!!!!!!!!!

I realize this is an old thread, but I thought I would add (my opinion) to it. I am not on the board or the selection committee or in any way involved in the decision making process of the board or selection committee. I do not know all they have to consider or who all has been nominated. I will not second guess them because I do not have all the facts to consider as they do. It is, therefore, my opinion an my opinion only, that Terry Bethel is well qualified on many levels to be inducted into the ISGHOF. I know that he has been nominated several times, I have filled out a nomination form and can attest to its thorough examination of the intended nominee. Terry Bethel, I believe, more than meets the requirements necessary for consideration for induction into the ISGHOF. I believe that it is just a matter of time until it is his time to be inducted. Until then, Terry is Hall Of Fame in my book. As for Tommy White, I do not know him, and therefore I will not comment on him one way or the other. I know who he is, and know of him, I wish him all the best.

Kindest regards,
Bro. David

I am going to jump in here and say that both Terry and Tommy belong in the hall. They are both monster players. They could be put in with Sonny Garrish at the same time.

I believe that once nominated the documents are retained and reviewed, so there seems no point in nominating subsequent times.

As deserving as Tommy White and others are, the nomination procedure has already begun for NEXT year so I am told.

I also think that far from helping the nomination and subsequent induction, barracking and badgering the committee members (as has happened in the past) will have a negative effect.

...because you can't induct everybody. It's normal to supply extensive amounts of information when someone is nominated. The Committee have an accumulation of nominations from previous years and each year have the option of choosing one of those already on file or a new nomination. As Basil said, badgering the Committee isn't going to help anyone.

I am still shocked that of all the famous West-coast steelers (Red Rhodes, Sneaky Pete, Bobby Black, Jay Dee, etc) one of the most influential and best-known of the group has yet to be inducted.

Rusty Young. Sad

You would be even more shocked if you were not an American and noted how Americans monopolise the selection. Sad

You might want to more closely read what I wrote. ALL of those guys are in the hall and the point I was making is that they are in and Rusty is still not.

Absolute agree! HOPEFULLY THE COMMITTEE IS DOING THIS.

Think about it....after Labor Day weekend if Tommy is not inducted (and I suspect he isn't, since he isn't on the list of players at the convention), someone may say "hmmm....I'll go ahead and put together a nomination".

So, October 2010 a nomination is submitted. Then, the SGHOF committee meets in September 2011 to review those nominations and select the honoree(s). Then you wait until September 2012 to see if your nominee was selected.

That is just ludicrous. And it discourages people from making nominations. If I think that YOU nominated him back in October 2010, then there is no point in me re-doing all of your work to resubmit in October 2011 when the committee may have selected him in September 2011 (but we have to wait until September 2012 to find out).

There should not be as much as a 23-month lag between a nomination and an announcement.
