A good proportion of Forum participants have no Avatar, or they use a cartoon, a picture of a guitar, or somesuch.
Is it just a matter of not knowing how to attach an avatar to your profile ? Check this out...

and this..

If you're worried that you're just too butt-ugly, don't worry, we won't laugh. If the Sheriff is after you, and you're afraid someone will recognise you, then wear a false beard. (No, mine is real, and, as far as I know, the Sheriff isn't after me yet. )
I would like to see who you are. Who knows, I could pass you on the street and not know it. |

Alan.........I second your fine suggestion.
I've long wanted to visualize who in the heck I was conversing with. I met a great gentleman down in St.Louis a couple of weeks back, a player I'd conversed with numerous times on the phone, and yet had no idea WHO he was until he was thoughtful enough to identify himself as 'my mystery telephone caller'. Enjoyed chatting with him but felt like a fool because I'd not been able to personally identify him on sight.
Same theme: While walking thro' the hotel in St.Louis I chanced to encounter David Hartley. Had it not been for his Forum photo's I'd have missed this wonderful opportunity to shake his hand and talk with him.
I think the photo's SHOULD BE a MUST!!! I also feel that somewhere there should be a BIO on all members so that when one espouses large volumes of expertise on this subject or that, that we each could have the opportunity to go quietly and verify for our own satisfaction, the true measure of that posted material.
Let's vote on it? |

Thanks Alan!
I have been trying to get that done for

right.
This is from a photo taken a few years
ago and I am going to stick with it. _________________ Custom Tabs Various Tunings

Changing my avatar, no. I like mine "as is", and it's the result of a local voting process.
If it's just about "showing face" and back up ones identity with some info, that's fine with me. Most of us have web sites, so no problem for those who want. Those who don't shouldn't have to, so no use voting on the issue, IMO. |

You may see my mug by clicking on my photobucket link in my signature line.
For now, a home made steel in my avatar will have to do.
More, or less, value can certainly be placed on an avatar picture to give people a true impression of your face.
Hadn't it been for Alan Brooks' signature beard I would not have recognized him.
Ray Montee's pic is good because it's a close-up.
David Collins' pic is taken from too far away to be able to tell what he looks like.
So we see that avatars don't always give a true depiction of the individual.
I suggest, if you want to post your pic, get a quality close-up like in Ray's avatar.
Georg, I respect your decision; obviously the majority won! A very good portrayal. Maybe after a while you should try a cow avatar.
For those who choose to post your pic in the avatar, sure no problem. It's a free country (ies) meaning we are free to do what we wish. _________________ BenRom Pedal Steel Guitars

Thanks for that, Alan - here's my new avatar!
My late-friend, Rick Alexander, used to do this for me, as technically-challenged as I am. He was always happy to help me out with any computer-related issues. A good chap....
I was getting pretty tired of that hackneyed old pic of me and my Emmons, so here's my latest toy!!! _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

Ray, are you saying we should judge the merits of what we read here on the forum based on a person's bio? I'm sure I've misunderstood your meaning because that is so obviously prejudicial. |

Ray, looks like a touch of swine flu.
This was when I had just started back playing after a 20 year layoff, stuck between Joe Wright, and Joe Turner...talk about pressure....Bill

Thanks Alan! Just added mine too. Took this picture some time ago but never could get it small enough to work. I love chiles.
I'll use this photo, our last fishing trip. A limit of Red Snapper, 2 Amberjacks, a Bonita and a Wahoo. I'm on the left, my good friend Capt George and his wife Mary Beth, and their nephew William from SC on the right, who soon will be joining the Marine Corps.

Maybe ... they sure got both "tone" and "volume", and aren't bad on "sustain" either
Anyway, I'm usually behind the camera...
...so this is a rare picture of the bearded man. Enjoy |
