A friend has stripped one of the rods on his Carter at the Nylon tuner(it is rod and not the nylon tuner), could some of you guys tell me what the thread measurement is? so he can get a new rod threaded from a local engineering shop.Does anyone know if it same as MSA Millenium. Thanks

I measure 3/16" diameter, material appears to be stainless-steel welding-rod, can't tell which alloy.

Ned must be talking about the pedal rod (no nylon tuning nuts there). I just measured one of my Carter pull rods, and it looks to be 3/32".

By the way, how did he strip the rod as opposed to the nylon nut. I believe the pull rods are also stainless steel. Tough to strip one of those.

Richard's right, the pull-rods are 3/32" diameter stainless-steel rod. When threading with a die, filing a slight chamfer on the end of the rod will help the die begin cutting. I did mine (by hand) in a lathe to make sure the die was square to the end of the rod and used cutting-oil for lube, backing off the die every half a turn for chip-clearance. Got a great result!

Richard, he had been unhappy with the B pedal since he bought it, on checking it for him I found that whoever had steel before had "modded it".The sixth string rod did not run straight to changer. There was a short rod running from B pedal cross shaft to a spare cross shaft and two bell cranks side by side, and a rod from there to changer. He had what appeared to be the original rod in the case, but when we fitted it it would not hold, at first we assumed nylon tuner had stripped, but after replacing it, the rod would not hold, on closer inspection we saw the thread on the rod was stripped, perhaps this had been the reason for the mod.
Thanks Ned.Regards

Malcomb, I think that was not a mod but done by the factory in order to get a good balance of the 3rd and 6th string pulls. The 3rd has to pull pretty far and the 6th barely has to move so they "geared down" the 6th string so it would be more accurate to fine tune and balance the pull better. I think this is really good design on Carters part. I could be wrong and please pardon me if I am in error.

Jerry, you could well be right, but the work on this particular bell crank was not a factory standard, rod was secured at bellcrank with two scews into collar. When new rod is made will check it out as regards the pulls.Regards

Jerry is correct. I checked 3 single neck carter guitars & they all use an extra bellcrank to raise 6th string.

Leonard, how was rod connected to bell crank at the B pedal? this one was connected into a brass collar which had two screws to secure rod.All other rods on guitar were usual Carter method of loop round collar, making me beleive it wasn't a factory job.Regards

Yes Malcolm, these used screws into barrel instead of like others of rods curled over barrel also.
