I saved some .wav files to my Ipod and they're huge - I though it was supposed to hold about 100 hours per 8gb, but it'll be more like 15? I should convert my .wav's to Mp3's, right? I'm not really worried about overall sound quality, it's just going to be practice loops for now. My creepeth-level Cakewalk (Guitar Pro Creepeth, hey $69) won't convert the .wavs itself, but I can pick up some freeware, right?

Audacity will convert from wav to Mp3 and it's free, make sure you have the mp3 lame encoder on your computer, or you will not be able to save or export to mp3 from any program unless it includes the mp3 encoder.

Yes, mp3 files are approximately 1/10 the size of WAV files.

SWITCH is another Free audio converter --> CLICK. I've been using this program for years, and it works great.

SWITCH allow up to 32,000 files to be converted in one batch! I have a lot of Band-in-a-Box files in my iPod, all mp3s converted from BIAB WAVs.

You've got an iPod, why not download iTunes and use that to convert to MP3? It's free and interfaces nicely with the iPod.

Windows Media player also rips. One of the nice things about the MP3 formats is the ability to select various sizes for various purposes. For email and internet you can drop UNDER 128, if a bit more fidelity is desired, go above 128.

I recently ripped our entire CD collection with Media player and stored the entire collection on an external drive. When ripping , all titles and sing information goes with the rip.
