What are some opinions for the use of 12-String Standard Guitars ?.

On Huckabee tonight there was a Chritian Group which was introduced as top notch. They had even been invited and played in North Korea. There was what sounded to me like a 12-string Standard Guitar that was just whailing away and completeley over rided the singers. He never let up. To my old ears it is a very twangy sound and tiresome if used too much.

Any comments, am I wrong ?

Sounds like he needed to tone it down some. I love the sound of a 12 string guitar but I can see where it could be overpowering if not mixed properly.

It was a standard 6-string guitar. He was playing lots of chords with open strings, which is very common in contemporary Christian music. For many of the chords, only the 3rd through the 6th strings are fretted, allowing the 1st two strings to ring open, without being fretted.

I work a lot with these CC players. I have seen them use two or three capos on the guitar at one time some only covering two or three strings. It makes for some very interesting sounding open string stuff, but I prefer not to use the "cheater", but then again I am just an old fuddy duddy and these kids are what is happening now....but then joni Mitchell used like a zillion tunings...back to the future.
