We can't get away from requests for this song. So if you can't beat them,...Learn it. I know it's done on slide guitar but have you guys ever done this on the pedal steel with some overdrive. Any Tab for this E9th Question

On web find guitar tab on first 2 strings then play on E9 strings 4 and 5. Lots of slow slides up and down. For me its not so much the notes as it is the sliding and tone!

This chord progression is a good exercise.
Play it all over the neck.

Here's a challenge:

Play it in one position. No bar movement. Standard E9 setup.

I'll explain how if somebody else doesn't.

The same progression in numbers:
Tab:

1   5  6m   6m
b7  4  5    5

Congrats in finding all but one.

Most would not find two, the D and the F.
That's because we all learn the common grips (10,8,6; 8,6,5; 6,5,4, 5,4,3), which is essential.

The use of other strings is necessary to get the D and F.

On the third fret:
F Major -(notes F,A,C) AB down- strings 9,7,6
(A pedal isn't really used; the 3rd and 1st strings can also be sounded)

D Major - (notes D,F#,A) lower the Es.
(Play stings 10, 8, 7 or 5, 4, 1)

Everyone needs a solid grasp of common grips. Once you have that, looking "outside the box" will open a new world of possibilities.

Tony,
Joey got you started thinking outside the conventional string grip box.
To continue along those lines for this particular song, staying on the 3rd fret –
D = strings 5 2 1 – no pedals or levers engaged
F = strings 4 3 2 – engaging B & C pedals & D knee lever that lowers the 2nd string ½ note
You can create some cool sounding licks by rocking on & off the C pedal while keeping the other pedal and knee lever engaged.
