Are there any differences in the sound of the older Hilton pedal with no tone control and the removable wall wart plug and the latest version of Keith's volume pedal with the tone control? Anyone have one of each to compare? I have the older model, I'm guessing is one of the early ones, and I'm toying with getting a new one and using the older one for backup. Thanks for your help. |

I have one of the earliest models (Yellow label) detachable power supply and a newer model with the attached power supply . I can't really tell any difference in the two . However, there is an even newer model out now, again with a detachable power supply . I haven't tried one of those so I don't know about them but a friend of mine has one and said he doesn't like it as well as the others . He says the tone is different and it is lighter weight . |

I believe that the two models have different tapers. |

I have one of each. I agree with Jim, the taper is slightly different, no difference in tone that I can tell whatsoever.

Speaking as one who has used pedal volume pedals since the late 1940's, and has cussed, discussed, bought and sold many of those monsters with their scratchy "pot" problems and "short throws" trying to find something better.....I found it! I bought a Hilton.
Since I bought a Hilton, I just plug it in and forget it, because it solved all of my previous problems; no adjusting the string, no scratchy pots, no tone variations, it just does it's job. I can now concenrate on my playing...not my equipment! _________________ "FROM THEN TIL' NOW" |

Thanks to everyone using my pedal. Also thanks for the kind words. Here is the actual facts. The circuit of the Hilton pedal has not changed since the first pedal I made 14 years ago, and for which I own a United States Patent. The taper has not changed in 14 years. The hinge point of the standard pedal and the low profile pedal has changed a couple of times. If you change the hinge point you change the feel of the pedal, and a different hinge point can make the action seem like the taper is different. We built cast pedals up until January of 2007. After January of 2007, pedals were made from sheet stock cut with laisers, and formed to shape. Both the older cast pedals and the newer sheet stock pedals are equally durable. The older cast pedals were heavier in weight, but everyone loves the lighter pedals made after January 2007. I still take pride in servicing what I sell. Thanks! |
