Great clip of Alistair Cook with Les Paul & Mary Ford demonstrating the blueprint for much of popular music of the last 50+ years. I don't think Mary Ford gets enough credit for their hits for her very quick ear for harmony and accuracy in overdubbing so many parts. Nevertheless, my favorite Les Paul cuts are the ones before Mary.

I'm so bummed that I never got to see him at the Iridium. My son and I talked about going many times and somehow, I never made it happen. Now it's too late.

Andy:

Thanks for posting that, I got it saved to my hard drive.

Here is a minute or so of his funeral procession in Milwaukee.

I have listened to "How High The Moon" probably 20 times in the last few days--maybe the most perfectly conceived pop song I ever heard.

Here is another dandy:

That's just wonderful; thanks for posting, Andy.

"...maybe the most perfectly conceived pop song I ever heard." -- Well put, Mitch.

The beautiful, alluring, and visionary mystery of the pop record as art is on full display in that clip.

That really is a great clip.

I also have talked about getting into the city for a Monday night at the Iridium for the last few years. I'm completely frustrated with myself that I didn't just make it happen.

There were a few of us who fed the jukebox in order to hear Les and Mary over and over again. Wouldn't waste my money these days.

Just an old fogey reliving his musical past.

Mitch -

There's a clip on that same site of Les - in later years - doing "How High The Moon" with a great ensemble. Let the music speak for itself!

That was great. And what amazing comping during her singing. Perfectly executed. Masterful.
